About this deal

These questions may be used during reading, or upon completion of the novel. While it is best to get students discussing what they’ve read, these questions can also be answered individually in a reader’s notebook. It is always such a joy to hear the different opinions that students have, even though they are reading the same novel! Peter has always loved telling stories. Growing up in New Jersey, he told stories by drawing whimsical characters and scenes from his imagination. Then, as a teenager, he fell in love with writing, and told his tales with words. While studying illustration at Art Center College of Design, Peter’s love of both words and pictures led him to take several courses on children’s books, and before long he knew he’d found his calling.

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name. See this thread for more information. Your turn! Which books like The Wild Robotwould you recommend and why? I’d love to hear from you. Also, I would love your help with this series. Not only does Roz change, but she changes the way of life on the island. What were the island and its inhabitants like at the beginning of the book when they first met Roz? What were they like at the end of the book? Be sure to use specific examples from the story. The 4th grade class was reading this story and I took it out of the library to read and discuss this with my 4th grader…he actually asked me to buy him the book so he could read it over again…We are going to read all three and then I will buy them all for him. Your book is the first chapter book we have been able to follow and discuss. In your first book, I loved all the scientific concepts you have incorporated in the story…I started taking notes for a discussion. Once I had a detailed outline of the plot, it was time to write. The first few chapters flowed pretty smoothly. But the further I went, the clearer it became that the plot wasn’t as solid as I’d thought. Certain scenes didn’t make sense. There were too many characters. I needed to simplify the entire story arc. I spent countless hours researching and writing chapters that took place in a zoo, only to decide later that the zoo chapters were problematic, and I got rid of them all. I agonized over the names of each new character, trying to include a variety of names, renaming characters again and again, searching for the perfect name for each one.But after an accident leaves him damaged, Cog wakes up in an unknown lab—and Gina, the scientist who created and cared for him, is nowhere to be found. Surrounded by scientists who want to study him and remove his brain, Cog recruits four robot accomplices for a mission to find her. So you read this sweet, family-friendly story by Peter Brown, and now you’re on the hunt for books like The Wild Robot? Welcome! The farm parts were pretty fun. I loved reading about Roz and how she tried to make the farm profitable again, how she fixed the machines so they worked again. Thanks to her the farm came to life again. And not only that, she even tried making improvements. Helping out the animals around the farm. It was just so much fun, even with Roz missing her family and friends, the island, she still made a new home for her at this place.

Roz has the tremendous task of adapting to her new way of life, much like people do in many ways in real life. What are some examples of how Roz adapts to these changes? Was it easy for her? What challenges did she face? Be sure to use details from the text. Roz learned a lot from the animals around her. Have each group member choose an animal and describe the lessons that it taught Roz, using specific instances from the book. If applicable, include lessons that Roz taught that animal for an extra challenge. The following version of this book was used to create this lesson plan: Brown, Peter. The Wild Robot Escapes. Little, Brown and Company. 2018. Hardcover. Hi Peter, Please make more books as we found out about the Wild Robot and then we found out about the Wild Robot Escapes. I really want more books about Roz. You make your books so exciting, amazing and perfect. You’ve taught me how birds fly in formation and that some (most) robots are really nice. My favourite character is Chit Chat because she is like me. I love squirrels and all they do. You make me feel happy, sad, dramatic, angry and all emotions. My favourite part is where Roz is with Brightbill. Its so sweet. Please make 4,5,6 more books!!Of course, the book is also illustrated. I loved the art in the previous book, and I loved it in this one. The style just fits perfect with the writing style. My books have all presented their own challenges, but no book has challenged me quite like this one. I had to develop a futuristic world, filled with futuristic technology and characters and settings; I had to make sure everything was believable and that the science made sense; I had to tell a story that readers could relate to, that was exciting and warm and honest, and use language that flowed when read aloud. There were so many considerations that it seemed like I’d never make it all work. But I just kept going. I gave this sequel absolutely everything I had, and I did so because of you, my readers. Your response to The Wild Robot was so incredible that I was determined to make this sequel meet your expectations. I hope with all my heart that I succeeded. I hope you enjoy The Wild Robot Escapes.
