Altra Torin 4.5: A Review : r/RunningShoeGeeks - Reddit Altra Torin 4.5: A Review : r/RunningShoeGeeks - Reddit

This layer of cushioning is comfortable to the wearer but noticeably less squishy as previous Torins or the Escalantes. I thought the midfoot fit felt a little snug at first, but as each run went on, it formed better to my obnoxiously wide feet. Some of the Altra fans may complain that it’s not as wide as it used to be, but if I can wear them, you probably can too. The tread is made with a firm rubber that provides good traction and is showing no signs of wear after almost 70 miles on the road. This is a max cushion neutral shoe, which is Altra’s most cushioned road shoe. The Altra Duo was a big super crazy cushioned shoe and very comfortable. It looked like a true big boy over there on our wall. Now that shoe is out of the lineup; the Torin is now the biggest max cushion shoe you can get from Altra. this is going to be your friend for all your long kind of stuff. What I liked in the Update

Altra Torin 4 Conclusion

I have to begin by saying that the Torin 5 was so comfortable that I sometimes forgot that I was wearing a running shoe. The supple sidewall construction really needs no adaptation period. The wonderful aeration of the upper material and the great cushion of the sole only adds to that comfort. All that to say, for all intents and purposes, the Altra Torin 4.5 Plush is now just the default Altra Torin, with a soft engineered knit upper. Whatever it took to get here, I’m cool with, because this turned out to be an excellent, lightweight, super comfortable zero-drop shoe. The main change to the shoe is the upper. It has made the shoes a tad lighter, although not hugely noticeable. The fit of the upper is very different though. Altra shoes have a broad and rounded toe box. This is designed to give your feet the room to function inside the shoes. The space encourages your feet to function. However, when customers are new to the brand this space makes the shoes feel ‘big’, so Altra are trying to still have the room for your feet to function but provide a snugger initial feel for those new to the brand. For this reason, there is less volume in the Torin 4.5 Plush than in the Torin 4 or Torin 4 Plush. For those with the highest volume feet this might make the Torin 4.5 Plush too snug. I don’t have high volume feet so the fit wasn’t an issue for me. The shape and snugger fit is similar to the Timp 2, but as with the Timp 2 once I was running in the shoes there was enough room and I certainly didn’t feel restricted. As with any shoe with a mesh upper, the Torin 4.0 isn’t going to keep your feet dry in the rain or while running through a puddle.

Altra Torin 4.5 Plush Performance Review - Believe in the Run

The latest Torin 4.5 Plush is the latest in a line of shoes designed as Altra’s everyday training shoe. A shoe designed to offer a good level of cushioning so you can put in the higher miles. The previous Torin 4 was actually available in two versions. The Torin 4 has a firmer more responsive feel and the Torin 4 Plush has a much softer, more pillow like ride to it. The Torin 4.5 Plush is an updated version of the softer variant. With only the upper being updated, I’m impressed by the weight of these. Last year, my Torin 4.0 Plush weighed 10.7 oz while this year’s 4.5 Plush weighs 9.6 oz. Some other companies should take note on how to cut weight without sacrificing comfort. All Altra shoes are Zero Drop, which together with the broad rounded toe box allows your feet to function improve your posture. If you are used to running in shoes that have an elevated heel and a more pointed toe box then it is advisable to transition into Altra. This is because your feet and lower legs won’t be as strong as the rest of your body as they will have been restricted by your shoes. It is a good idea to gradually increase the time you spend in your Altra running shoes and alternate them with your previous shoes. What tends to happen is that your feet start to spread on impact and you become more aware of the stiffness and elevated heel in your previous shoes. So you naturally increase the time you spend running in your Altra’s. The Torin 4.5 Plush is an excellent daily trainer, long run, or easy recovery day shoe. The zero drop cult and curious truth-seekers should be pleased with this one. The Torin 5 has a great look about it. The Torin has great lines and cool contours on the heel box. With four colors to choose from, the Torin will fit most runners' styles.

Fleet Feet testers love the wide toe box because it’s comfortable for a lot of different foot shapes.JARRETT: The Altra Torin 4.5 Plush is here. What does the .5 mean? I’m glad you asked! Or secretly I want to show off that I can pay attention and learned something… The .5 means that this is an update to just the upper. The midsole and outsole are the same as the Torin 4 Plush. If you liked the previous model, you’ll be happier than a pig in mud. The Good By the spring of 2019, the Torin 4 came out. This was a two-year shoe, and for my shop, I think this was our favorite Altra that we had in here. I know for a road shoe, the Escalante was a massive change for Altra, but as far as people just put on a shoe and were really happy with the fit and feel, the Torin 4 was an awesome shoe. The upper of the Altra Torin 4.0 is predominately mesh, which allows for good breathability and comfort. As I mentioned earlier in this review, the sole unit of the Torin 4.0 is a big change from prior models. And the reason for that is the Quantic cushioning in the midsole.

Alright, I have to be honest. I have a soft spot for a little extra cushion in my running shoes. Don´t get me wrong, I love my slimmed down, 7oz, no-nonsense racing flats, but when it comes to pounding the pavement to get my daily miles in, I really enjoy the cushion. The Torin 5 strikes a nice balance between soft and responsive in their Altra EGO MAX sole. The Torin 5 fits true to size. I wear a US men’s 9.5 and the Torin hit the mark exactly. Some extra cushion… Just for you! Tipping the scales at 9 oz the Torin 5 is nice and light. While not as lean as a racing shoe, the Torin 5 is perfectly in league with shoes within its intended use genre. The Torin 5 is the perfect weight for those everyday runs. Altra even achieves this weight while offering a slightly more cushioned platform. Enhanced heel collar is a nice touch There was an overlay around the toe box in the previous version that annoyingly creased. Altra softened that up and made it less pronounced around the pinky toe so there are no issues anymore.
