About this deal
and together they have turned their attention to cricket: the result is an enlightening, surprising and enjoyable read.
The book covers several topics that I was previously unaware of and contradicts several popular myths about the game.
A contest that may last five days, including several stretches where no runs are scored and indeed nothing much happens, and still ends in a draw.
This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. I think that it is not quite as well developed in some chapter, for example the how well do teams play above or below their average temperatures. The final chapter in particular highlights how poor the authorities have been at handling the game - but shows hope for the future. It is certainly packed with stats and deductions from them, but to be honest I found it rather hard going. To be fair, this isn’t really a book to be read straight through; taking a section at a time with breaks would probably improve the experience, and it will be of huge interest and help to those analysing the game and proposing to make changes. it is a book which should be of interest not only to cricket enthusiasts, but anyone with an interest in sport. Must read for fans of the game who want to know why certain things - like BCCI's influence within ICC - work the way they do, and how the sport got there.
