About this deal

This is a medicine; Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist. Adults aged 16 years and over should take two capsules every four to six hours as necessary, up to a maximum of four doses in 24 hours. Do not take more than eight capsules in 24 hours. If you take paracetamol in the hour before or the six hours after taking colestyramine, the paracetamol is likely to be less effective. This is because colestyramine reduces the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. You should avoid taking Lemsip max capsules one hour before or six hours after taking colestyramine.

It is safe to take Lemsip max cold & flu capsules with ibuprofen or aspirin. However, do not take them with co-codamol, co-dydramol or Tramacet because these contain paracetamol. The product should be avoided during lactation unless recommended by a healthcare professional. There are limited data on the use of phenylephrine in lactation. You have Raynaud’s syndrome (poor blood circulation which makes the fingers or toes pale and numb), or diabetes mellitus Healthcare professionals should note that there is no risk to product quality and/or efficacy, therefore the affected batches are not being recalled. Guaifenesin: Guaifenesin has occasionally been reported to cause gastro-intestinal discomfort, nausea and vomiting, particularly in very high doses. Also, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.Talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you need this medicine on a daily basis for a prolonged period of time, especially if you have been advised to have a low salt diet. Lemsip Max All in One Cold & Flu Capsules are formulated with key active ingredients: paracetamol, phenylephrine, guaifenesin. Paracetamol acts as an analgesic, intercepting pain signals to the brain. Phenylephrine functions as a decongestant, and guaifenesin functions as an expectorant and combats chesty coughs . Caution is advised if paracetamol is administered concomitantly with flucloxacillin due to increased risk of high anion gap metabolic acidosis (HAGMA), particularly in patients with severe renal impairment, sepsis, malnutrition and other sources of glutathione deficiency (e.g. chronic alcoholism), as well as those using maximum daily doses of paracetamol. Close monitoring, including measurement of urinary 5-oxoproline, is recommended. Sympathomimetic amines: concomitant use of phenylephrine with other sympathomimetic amines can increase the risk of cardiovascular side effects. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: This product should not be used in women with a history of pre-eclampsia. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this product if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Using paracetamol or paracetamol containing products such as Lemsip Max long-term may potentially increase the anti-blood-clotting effect of warfarin, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. Lemsip max capsules should only be used for the short period to relief the symptoms of cold or flu. Other medicines containing the same active ingredients Caffeine: Caffeine is absorbed readily from oral, rectal or parenteral administration, but absorption from the gastrointestinal tract may be erratic. There is little evidence of accumulation in any particular tissue. Caffeine passes readily into the central nervous system and into saliva. Concentrations have also been detected in breast milk. It is metabolised almost completely and is excreted in the urine as 1-methyluric acid, 1-methylxanthine and other metabolites, with only about 1% unchanged. If the symptoms of your cold or flu persist for more than three days, or worsen, consult your pharmacist. The rate of absorption of paracetamol may be increased by metoclopramide or domperidone and absorption may be reduced by cholestyramine. Many people can manage cold and flu symptoms with simple analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen, and over-the-counter cold and flu remedies like Lemsip Max Day & Night, Sudafed, or Benylin for superior relief.

Do not take if: allergic to any ingredient, if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, or are taking or have taken MAOI's (antidepressants) within 14 days, if you are taking other sympathomimetic decongestants. Flu sneaks up on you. You can be infected for days before realising it. You can be innocently infecting others a whole day before your own symptoms show up. And you can stay contagious for up to five to seven days after you first go down with it. If you're taking medicines for high blood pressure you shouldn't take Lemsip max cold & flu capsules, because the decongestant may make your blood pressure medicine less effective. Other medicine interactions for Lemsip max cold & flu related to paracetamol Care is advised in the administration of paracetamol to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater in those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products. Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 g or more of paracetamol. Ingestion of 5 g or more of paracetamol may lead to liver damage if the patient has risk factors (see below).

Tricyclic antidepressants: Tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) may increase the risk of cardiovascular side effects with phenylephrine (see section 4.3).Tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline): may increase the risk of cardiovascular side effects with phenylephrine (see section 4.3).

a) Is on long-term treatment with carbamazepine, phenobarbitone, phenytoin, primidone, rifampicin, St John's Wort or other drugs that induce liver enzymes, There have been reports of blood dyscrasias including thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia and agranulocytosis, but these were not necessarily causally related to paracetamol. Care is advised in the administration of paracetamol to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater in those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease.Sympathomimetic agents: Concomitant use of phenylephrine with other sympathomimetic amines can increase the risk of hypertension and other cardiovascular side effects (see section 4.3). Do not take more than the recommended dose. You should also avoid taking more than one paracetamol-containing medicine at the same time, as this can easily result in exceeding the maximum dose of paracetamol. Paracetamol: Paracetamol is absorbed rapidly and completely mainly from the small intestine, producing peak plasma levels after 15-20 minutes following oral dosing. The systemic availability is subject to first-pass metabolism and varies with dose between 70% and 90%. The drug is rapidly and widely distributed throughout the body and is eliminated from plasma with a T ½ of approximately 2 hours. The major metabolites are glucuronide and sulphate conjugates (>80%) which are excreted in urine. There are limited data on the use of guaifenesin in pregnant women. Guaifenesin has been linked with an increased risk of neural tube defects in a small number of women with febrile illness in the first trimester of pregnancy. Epidemiological studies in human pregnancy have shown no ill effects due to paracetamol used in the recommended dosage.
