About this deal

Curious, hard working, and always open to learning, Italian student of Cultural Heritage Management, based in Milan. I want people to share their stories, use it as a jumping-off point to have a conversation about something that might be difficult, and find some joy in difficult experiences. And that’s really why these tweets became popular enough to be collected into a pretty volume you can hold in your hand and flip through at your leisure: the sense of kinship with women throughout history who had to endure the same kind of nonsense we did, with even more limited recourse to fight back. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. The content of the book is hit-or-miss, though there are some clever pairings made between the gorgeous artwork and comments that I've sure most women have heard from some men before.

In another post, Tersigni placed an 18th-century painting titled “Conversation in a Park” by Thomas Gainsborough next to the caption, “you would be so much prettier if you smiled,” turning what seems like a vignette of a man flirting with a woman into a laugh-out-loud scene. The author helpfully divided the men to avoid into chapters: the mansplainer, the "concern troll," the comedian, the sexpert, and the patronizer. Many museums have their databases online so that you can scroll through all their collections; I went through all these museums and picked the paintings that I wanted and learned about their artists. I hate that phrase so much: that is a huge red flag, so if someone says that to you just get out of there.

It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Rather than get me excited to read, the tone and forced jokes actually made me want to put the book down. They look on, often breaking the fourth wall, like Jack Benny dumbfounded by the noise passing for information. It’s such a universal experience that you have when people come into your space repeating your own words to you as they thought of it. Actually, in my book, the quotes are all things that the men are saying; the women are not really saying anything.

Makes a perfect gift for women and feminists with a wry sense of humor, millennials, anyone who loves memes and Internet humor, as well as history and art buffs. We've been getting trolled for ages, and now we have more power to speak against it-and we have the likes of Tersigni to archive this frustration. In the foreword, Jen Kirkman explains to men that you know that not all men are like the ones that you described in the book.

Men To Avoid In Art And Life by Nicole Tersigni is a gift book, similar in design to art/coffee table books but significantly smaller in size, consisting primarily of illustrations with pithy captions. This collection of famous art mixed with observations and snarky comments about men gave me quite a few laughs. It’s because they don’t care what’s going on with the women in the paintings or because that’s just their experience with women, and I wonder why. There are also quality filters so sometimes I don’t even see them, but when I do they are very easy to ignore because they are very boring and unoriginal. Based on Ms Tersigni’s popular Twitter thread, this tome collects details of classic art (with a very helpful index in the back!
