About this deal

Here's maybe the biggest: The success of Walt Disney, the company, though not an inevitability, makes a lot more sense when we realize that Disney the man was first and foremost a businessman and only secondarily, almost accidentally, an artist and the practical inventor of modern animation. Beginning in 1969, two and a half years after Disney's death, Barrier recorded long interviews with more than 150 people who worked alongside Disney, some as early as 1922. This is the story of a man who grew up in a small Missouri town and worked non-stop from childhood until his final days to become one of the most well-know figures in all of history. I'm not sure I would make this my first biographical endeavor into the life of one of the most influential people of the Twentieth Century. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

This book, although something feels a tad bit archaic about it, is a behind-the-curtain peek at animation's most beloved proponent, and a very good way to get to know Walt, his ideas, and his modis operandi a little more intricately. Barrier touches on some of the more negative aspects of Disney's personality, temperament, etc than Thomas did, but doesn't get into as much detail as Gabler did, and simply glosses over certain important events in Walt's life/Disney history. Beginning in 1969, two and a half years after Disney’s death, Barrier recorded long interviews with more than 150 people who worked alongside Disney, some as early as 1922.

DreamWorks Animations recently launched a third film in the Trolls franchise Trolls Band Together (2023)! Barrier shows us a tireless innovator, a man of deep feeling, a true American original who has woven himself into the very fabric of modern culture. In effetti da bambina mi ci è voluto un po' per capire che Disney fosse una persona in carne e ossa.

Barrier gives us a Walt Disney as authentic and tangible a personality as the best of the animated characters the famous studio brought to the screen. There are a lot of things that can be associated with the start of a new school year; for kids it’s the excitement (and sometimes nervousness) of new. Take for example, the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride, one of my favorites I had taken many times as a child. Three take-outs from Hook It’s been 23 years since Aardman released its first feature film Chicken Run.

Each chapter contains over 100 references, almost always to people who knew Walt or things Walt himself said or wrote. This biography chronicles Disney's life while keeping in view the technological and stylistic developments in animation and filmmaking that Disney helped bring about. To help welcome children in primary aged groups back to school, we’ve put together ten free resources. What emerges is a portrait of Walt Disney as a flawed but fascinating artist, one whose imaginative leaps allowed him to vault ahead of the competition and produce work that even today commands the attention of audiences worldwide.
