This is an excellent book for young children, though people of all ages will be equally entertained and well informed by its content. Written by Gemma Willis, Diary of a Disciple's quirky and accessible style offers a way into the Bible for the next generation. Luke’s Story tells you who Jesus is, what he did, the people he met, all the super interesting things he had to say, and it has a pretty jaw-dropping twist right at the end… Diary of a disciple: Luke’s Story is a contemporary retelling of Luke’s Gospel. Luke wrote down everything that happened because he wanted everyone, everywhere in the whole world to hear what he had to say. Written in a quirky, contemporary, accessible style, Diary of a Disciple offers a way into the Bible for the next generation. She has a particular interest in the way in which contemporary culture affects the way children and young people engage with faith. Beginning with Elizabeth and Zechariah’s miracle child to Jesus’ resurrection, Luke uses doodles and drawings to tell his story of finding out who Jesus is, and why it matters more than anything else. Bringing the life of Jesus into a new retelling for ages 8–11, Diary of a Disciple makes Luke’s Gospel accessible with a fresh new voice in the quirky and brainy Dr Luke.

These were brought for kids 5-11s at our after school club (of non Christian background) as part of a gift.It has a lively, engaging style which makes you want to keep reading, and has a style that relates extremely well to youngsters. From heaving storms to seething Pharisees, Luke follows Jesus through it all, and discovers some amazing things along the way. In an effort to be funny/quirky, this retelling of the gospel sometimes made disrespectful jokes about Jesus and his disciples. My son (aged 8) has been reading diary of a wimpy kid but now he's reading diary of a disciple avidly.
