About this deal

Those eyeing up the GX800 as a large, affordable gaming monitor will be pleased to hear that, while the set doesn’t support VRR, it does boast very low input lag. We measured it at 14.6 seconds, which isn’t far off the lowest current TVs are able manage. LED Smart TVs with HDR Bright Panel Plus screens are ideal for rooms with lots of natural light. Producing crisp colourful images and spectacular contrast - even on the brightest of days. Why wait until the evening to start streaming that series? The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. Want to switch from watching TV to gaming? No problem, just select Game Mode* using the TV remote. It reduces input lag - so the on-screen action reacts instantly to your commands. Taking you from the sofa into the world of the game.

The OLED lineup will also benefit from a 60Hz Refresh Mode that reduces input lag, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium. Audio Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. So take your time to really understand the sort of product you’re looking for. Think about the sort of features that you need. Which ones are “nice-to-have” and which ones are absolutely critical. If you’re looking for a cheap option then don’t even consider the products that are all signing all dancing because you’ll be paying for features that you don’t need. Choose your retailer wisely

Though the Panasonic HX800 doesn’t support next-gen HDMI 2.1 gaming features like Variable Refresh Rate and 4K 120Hz, it does at least offer ALLM (Auto Low-Latency Mode) for activating the TV’s Game Mode and reducing input lag – last year’s GX800 delivered ultra-fast response times of just 15ms. Panasonic has been courting gamers over the past few years to compete with the likes of LG and Samsung, and its OLED screens intend to bring out the best performance yet to make sure every title looks its best.

However, the image is so pleasingly naturalistic in Normal and True Cinema, thanks in part to dynamic tone mapping, that you might be tempted to forgo the hunt for specular brightness.Naturally, this audio prowess disappears when there’s a lot going on in the mix, as TV speakers such as these are far too simple and small to keep up. The only real sacrifice is that the mid-range is fairly unexciting. There’s not much depth to voices and given that dialogue is a pretty large part of most films, it’s quite noticeable and stops this TV from scoring full marks on sound. Verdict Compared to the MZ980 there’s a boost in sizes, 42- to 65-inches, though this series appears to drop the HCX Pro AI processor for Panasonic’s 4K Color Engine Pro. What could that mean for the picture? As of now we’re not sure, but we suspect the finer colour handling and brightness of the above models won’t be as possible for the MZ800. Panasonic’s edge-lit LEDs still sometimes leak a bit of light close to the edge of the frame and the whole panel could be a little better shielded from its light source. This is simply the shortcoming of mid-range, edge-lit TVs, though. The only way to get beyond that with Panasonic is to make the significant step up to the company’s OLED range. The fact that this is the only place we notice the compromise is credit to what Panasonic has done here. The IR remote is the usual Panasonic button-fest, and includes dedicated Netflix and Freeview Play shortcuts. The GX800 obviously has a fairly narrow contrast band to work with, and Dolby Vision makes the most of this, combining highlights and lowlights in a really balanced way and revealing fine details at both ends of the spectrum. Switching Dolby Vision off often results in a slightly brighter image, but it’s tonally flatter and a tad less insightful.
