Like many of the mugs, it needed to be “reminded” it was still on during our four-hour charging test, but simply moving the mug a bit was enough to turn off its sleep mode and restart the warming feature.

I checked out the type and readability of the controls and assessed the feel of the mug in my hand and the comfort of drinking from it. I've also found that the 6-oz Cup fits nicely under my espresso machine and helped my espresso shots stay warm. If you often lose cups, either at work or in the car, ‌Find My‌ will has the potential to be a useful feature addition.Useful app: I do appreciate that you can go deeper with the app so that it earns its spot on your phone. I found that most of the mugs tasted relatively the same after 90 minutes, save the Ember Travel, which was superior to the others. I found it slightly difficult to compare each mug because almost all of them performed relatively the same. This means the longer your brew is held in the mug, the more likely it is to taste more sour, bitter or metallic — all issues I encountered in my testing across the different Ember mugs, though your specific outcome will depend on the coffee beans you use. Both Embers and the VSITOO are app-controlled (arguably, these are the only “smart” mugs because of their app connectivity), and even amongst that group, the Ember Travel can be controlled via touch functions on the mug itself.

The mug can keep drinks hot for up to three hours, depending on the pour temperature, ambient temperature, desired temperature, and if creamer was added.Instead, I’d classify this as a really lovely luxury, an item that made drinking coffee better in a way that I hadn’t expected. Unlike the other smart mug, the VSIToo, you could also set the Ember to exactly the temperature you want (along with its app constantly disconnecting every time I entered a different room, the VSIToo only allows you to tweak the temperature in nine-degree increments). Instead, you can simply tap the mug and make any necessary temperature adjustments right on the side of it. To get the full Ember experience, however, we’d recommend pairing the Ember Travel Mug with a smartphone. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places.

We also liked that when we tapped the Ember logo located on the top portion of the mug, it allowed us to access the temperature gauge, battery percentage, and a rotating Ember logo. Apple is believed to be working on a new full-sized HomePod that features a touchscreen display for the first time. ounces is on the smaller side for a travel cup and I do wish that it held more, but it needs to fit in a cup holder and have space for the battery, heating elements, and other hardware. The smart heated travel mug allows you to set your preferred drinking temperature (49° C – 62° C), so you can enjoy your hot drink — just the way you like it — from the first sip to the last drop.Ember Mug 2 : The good ol’ Ember performed just fine, but you get so many more features for a few bucks more with the Ember Travel. And did exactly what it needed to do: it kept coffee consistently hot over an extended period of time.
