About this deal

As with all phones, the Nokia Lumia 530's overall no-frills desirability entirely depends on your needs. Compared to handsets even a step or two up on the pricing ladder, the 530 is a mediocre performer across the board, though its 4G connection and capacious SD storage card options are bright spots. However, its small screen size limits it from being helpful for seniors or the majority of people transitioning to their first smartphone, and the slippery material is less than ideal. No matter how much money is stripped away from the budget, Nokia always tries to put that little bit of extra attention into the design of its phones. With the Nokia Lumia 530 there’s very little extra budget to put aside, but it’s still better-looking than some low-cost phones from the smaller names. Pixels are usually measured in microns (μm). Larger ones are capable of recording more light, hence, will offer better low light shooting and wider dynamic range compared to the smaller pixels. On the other hand, smaller pixels allow for increasing the resolution while preserving the same sensor size. Information about the number of pixels per centimeter (ppcm) or per inch (ppi) of the display. The higher the pixel density, the more detailed and clearer is the information displayed on the screen.

The weather was very cloudy and overcast when we took these photos, but colours aren’t too murky or muddy Focal length is the distance in millimeters from the focal point of the image sensor to the optical center of the lens. The 35 mm equivalent indicates the focal length at which a full-frame camera will achieve an angle of view that's the same as the one of the camera of the mobile device. It is measured by multiplying the native focal length of the camera by the crop factor of the sensor. The crop factor itself can be determined as the ratio between the diagonal distances of the image sensor in the 35 mm camera and a given sensor. Information about the height, i.e. the vertical side of the device when it is used in its standard orientation. Tilt the Lumia 530 left and it goes darker, tilt it right and it goes brighter and more washed-out. Turn the display more than a few degrees to the left and you get colour inversion, making the screen barely comprehensible at times. Design Information about the dimensions and weight of the device, shown in different measurement units. Body materials, available colors, certifications. WidthIt’s a small, fairly low-res display. However, much like the Lumia 520, as the screen is quite small the pixellating effects of the resolution aren’t terrible. The aperture (f-stop number) indicates the size of the lens diaphragm opening, which controls the amount of light reaching the image sensor. The lower the f-stop number, the larger the diaphragm opening is, hence, the more light reaches the sensor. Usually, the f-stop number specified is the one that corresponds to the maximum possible diaphragm opening.

The Lumia 530 display offers 245ppi, which isn’t too far removed from the 256ppi of the (admittedly much better) Motorola Moto E. As long as you don’t look too close, the pixels don’t scream at you like babies crying on a long-distance flight.Information about additional software and hardware features of the rear camera which improve its overall performance. The instruction set architecture (ISA) is a set of commands used by the software to manage the CPU's work. Information about the set of instructions the processor can execute.

The rear cameras of mobile devices use mainly a LED flash. It may arrive in a single, dual- or multi-light setup and in different arrangements. Connectivity options on the Nokia Lumia 530 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth v4.00, and 3G. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer and proximity sensor. The phone uses a quad-core Snapdragon 200 1.2GHz CPU, a low-end processor with really very low-power Cortex-A5 cores. A ‘quad-core’ tag is nice to have, but we imagine the Lumia 530 might perform better with the dual-core Cortex-A7 Snapdragon 200 used in the Motorola Moto E. But do you really notice it in gaming? We honestly found it hard to test to start with as the Lumia 530 barely has enough storage to install the few high-end games – like Gameloft’s Asphalt 8 – that exist on Windows Phone. After taking a few photos, we had well under 1GB to play with. Estimated volume of the device, calculated from the dimensions provided by the manufacturer. Applies for devices in the form of a rectangular parallelepiped. The color depth of the display is also known as bit depth. It shows the number of bits used for the color components of one pixel. Information about the maximum number of colors the screen can display. On November 10, 2014, Microsoft released its successor, the Microsoft Lumia 535, with a 1-inch larger IPS display, double tap to wake, ambient light sensor, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 8 GB of internal memory (vs 4 GB), 1GB of RAM (vs 512 MB), larger 1905 mAh battery (vs. 1430mAh), 5 MP front-facing camera (vs. no FF camera), auto-focus for the rear camera (vs fixed focus), and LED Flash (vs. no flash). However, you only need to switch on the Lumia 530 to see where Nokia has cut corners to keep the price down. The phone’s 4in 854×480 display not only has a noticeably grainy-looking finish, but its colour accuracy was also quite low. Our colour calibrator showed it was displaying just 67.1 per cent of the sRGB colour gamut, which is below average even by budget phone standards. This meant that colours didn’t look particularly rich or vibrant, and even altering the phone’s colour profile in the settings menu did little to improve its score. PC Advisor also considers the Lumia 530 to be worse than its predecessor, as it has a worse camera with fixed focus, instead of the auto-focus of the predecessor, half the storage size, and a worse graphics processor. [5] Variants [ edit ] Numerous low-end phones still use these kinds of basic screens, but the Lumia 530 is positively blown out of the water by the Motorola Moto E, which offers a 4.3-inch 950 x 530 pixel IPS screen at the same price. Even the Lumia 520 used an IPS screen, albeit a pretty low-end one. stand-by time is the longest time a battery charge will last, if the device is not used but is constantly connected to the 3G mobile network.
