About this deal

Getting into the habit of adding your peony plant supports before your plant even start to grow will make it much easier to keep the flowers from flopping every spring. In late spring, peonies erupt all over the city. It seems that every second house has one in the garden, and it’s no wonder; their blooms are one of the biggest and most stunning to arrive in the spring. The best time to provide support for your peony bushes is before they need it, meaning early Spring. The best peony support rings have a grid for a reason. If this did not have the grid they would just lean all around the peony ring instead of holding up their blooms. Rustic finish arrives pre-aged to give an authentic rust effect that blends beautifully into your garden. The finish is like any natural rusted metal and care should be taken initially as the rust may transfer onto clothes and furnishings.

When your peony bush is done blooming and you’ve removed all the dead flowers, leave it alone until fall. Since they are such early spring growers, it’s best to cut down peonies in the fall after hard frost has killed the foliage. This also helps prevent pests and disease. Simply cut the plant all the way down to the ground. Some people like to use wire tomato cages, but I prefer to use peony cages to support my peonies. Using Peony Cages If peonies don’t have support, the big blooms will cause them to flop onto the ground and they won’t last long. Also, rain likes to batter peonies into the ground which is yet another reason to support them. But I found pulling the wire over the top of the ring in a 5-point star pattern was faster and easier. (please see video).

Meet Amy!

I’ll share with you what peony supports are popular with gardeners and, my personal favourite, peony chairs! Cut your peony down to the ground in late fall or after frost has killed the leaves (don’t cut it down in the spring or summer or it may not bloom next spring)! Peonies flop over due to their large and heavy flowers on top of long stems. The stems aren’t always flexible enough to support the full weight of the large bloom.

If the support is too small, you could damage the peony roots when trying to push the cage legs into the ground. I like these peony support rings But don’t worry if you forgot, you can still stake your peonies after the flowers have opened, and save them from crashing to the ground. More About Flower Gardening Tomato cages are useful garden tools that encourage plants to grow upward and keep them from prematurely spoiling, as well as prevent premature tomato death. Tomato cages that are designed to grow tall and strong have the greatest advantage over plants that do not grow tall or strong. There are many types of supports but I like peony grids. They come in a few different sizes so choose the one right for your size shrub. You might also consider creating rings or lines of stakes around a clump, or several peony clumps, with natural twine or other strings between them. 2) Plant Support Hoops It was a heavier gauge wire than other tomato cages but the others could work as well. After some testing, I will let you know how they work. Peony blooms do best when they are supported, so it is important to make sure they have some sort of structure or support around them. However, using supports of some kind for herbaceous peonies can potentially help you avoid disappointment later in the growing season, and prolong the duration for which you can enjoy the beautiful peony blooms. Support Options To Consider

Buy a single cage or a pair — Create a single centrepiece or bookmark your garden with a choice of one or two peony cages.Stakes might be made from a range of different materials, from bamboo to natural branches from your garden, to reclaimed lengths of wood, metal or other materials.

It is best to grow tomatoes in stagnant, hot weather. Plastic wrap is applied over the bottom two rungs and steps of the tomato cage to simulate a greenhouse. Plants are not allowed to move because the heat is trapped within the wrap and cannot escape. When first installed, they will be noticeable and if they are attractive, all the better, but ideally the plant should grow into the structure and be barely noticeable by flowering time. Trim your peonies after they’re done blooming to remove the dead flowers, and give the plants a nice shape for the summer.
