About this deal

The illustrations were every bit as appealing as the story, making use of textual collage elements in ways that reminded me of the artist's work for his subsequent A Child of Books. This rapid consumption of literature eventually becomes too much for Henry to handle and his learning gets all mixed up; the book eating has to stop. Now living in New York, he works as a painter, designer, printmaker and installation artist, but remains very busy making picture books.

Praise for 'How to Catch a Star': 'The best recent picture book by light years, is stylishly spellbinding. One day Henry decides to actually try reading one of his half-eaten books and a whole new world opens up before him. Following the advice of parents, doctors and librarians, he stopped scarfing down books, but subsequently found life a bit dull and flat. I believe the last picture book I reviewed was A Child of Books by Oliver Jeffers and here I am with his earlier gem. así que como es lógico suponer tuve que adquirir obligadamente algunos libros del autor y este quedó entre los elegidos.

The first three - the "boy books" - feature a small boy who sets off on a series of daunting quests. Until the day, that is, that the knowledge he was ingesting began to become a little mixed, and he began to feel a little ill as a result of his unusual diet. Have not heard of Oliver Jeffers before, but loved the little video and will definitely look into getting a couple of his books. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. One afternoon Henry began by eating just a word, then a sentence, followed by a page and then a whole book in one go. How To Catch A Star is a beautiful debut picture book from an extremely talented and innovative illustrator. He gulps down all kinds of books, from storybooks to dictionaries and discovers that the more he eats, the smarter he gets.

An inquisitive little girl, who is enchanted by the world around her, is badly shaken when she loses someone she loves. Oliver Jeffers has won numerous awards and delighted millions of kids and parents alike with his beautifully hand illustrated stories. I can see reading it with kids in all sorts of settings, and independent readers should enjoy perhaps it even more.

The added touch on the back of the corner chewed off is just a little extra but children LOVE noticing it! The story here is humorous and engaging, offering an oblique exploration of how we consume books and other media amidst all the hilarity. The snappy text works well for reading aloud, but older children will enjoy exploring the subtle details hidden in the illustrations and backgrounds.
