Because that’s the thing with getting what you want: all that yearning and dreaming and fantasizing leaves a great big hole that can only be filled with more yearning and dreaming and fantasizing.” He’s not old,” Bess replied. “He’s mature. Like wine. Like Cheese. I love him. I actually love him.” Only 3 percent of the population of the world has green eyes. Her mother had always told her that in an effort to make her feel special.” This reading group guide for Watching You includes discussion questions and ideas for enhancing your book club. The suggested questions are intended to help your reading group find new and interesting angles and topics for your discussion. We hope that these ideas will enrich your conversation and increase your enjoyment of the book. Despite being raised in the most suitable of conditions, things aren’t turning out well for brothers Tony, Sean, and Ned who are now all grown up.

I spot the final twist and murderer but the author gives you small hints that are played out nicely. This only intrigued me more to find out if I was right! :) Strange things always happen in the neighborhoods where Tom lives, and Melville Heights is no exception. Just who is Tom Fitzwilliam? Does anyone really know?To the outside world he is a handsome, popular, successful man, but is he really all that?Strange things always happen in the neighborhoods where Tom lives, and Melville Heights is no exception. There is spying in the neighborhood by his son, there are women in love with Tom, and there is a neighbor, Mrs. Tripp, who thinks Tom is the cause of numerous strange things happening to her and has remembered something about Tom that happened a few years ago. Could Mrs. Tripp be right about Tom and everyone else wrong thinking he is perfect? She doesn't give up.Tom’s son, Freddie, is definitely odd and frightening. There are other characters that play some major roles such as Joey who is a suspect in a murder investigation that occurred in the neighborhood and who has a crush on Tom Fitzwilliam. WATCHING YOU is definitely a study in human nature with nosy neighbors being the focus. It seemed that everyone was spying on someone with Freddie being the major one.As the book continues, the mystery about who Tom really is and who the murdered person is at the beginning of the book are slowly revealed.WATCHING YOU has a lot of unlikable and odd characters, but that is what made it good and typical Lisa Jewell. I was asking myself just who is anyone in this twisty, strange, but excellent thriller that had me wondering about all of the characters and what was happening. If you enjoy Lisa Jewell’s books, you won’t want to miss reading WATCHING YOU. The ending revelations are GREAT!! 4/5This book was given to me as an ARC by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Read more

As the book opens, a woman has been murdered in Melville Heights, but we don’t know who, why, or what happened? We hear from multiple characters as the timeline goes forward in time eventually landing on the fateful day of the murder in March, along with short narratives from the police interrogation interviews interspersed throughout. I loved that particular structure. It kept me guessing and led to a great handle on each of the characters. Watching You begins with a diary excerpt from 1996. How does this passage set the tone for the novel? Now that you’ve finished reading, who do you think wrote it? The storyline revolves around several main characters whose lives are all entwined in different ways which made the story rich with a subdued suspense peaking towards the end so I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation and I was rewarded with so many more tasty morsels than I could have imagined. The story is about a group of very different people living in theMelville Heights neighborhood in Bristol, England. It’s an upscale neighborhood so while it’s perhaps not the place where criminal activity is expected, everyone sure has a secret. While there are several characters throughout the novel, there are four main ones:Tom Fitzwilliam, the local school headmaster that everyone seems infuriated with, including his neighbor JoeyMullen who develops an obsessive crush. Then there’sTom’s teenaged son Freddie who adopts an odd hobby of spying on the entire neighborhood. Lastly, we haveJenna Tripp, who also lives on the same street, and she’s not convinced her teacher is as squeaky clean as he seems. He's the head teacher at the local school. Twice your age. Extraordinarily attractive. You find yourself watching him.

When someone is found murdered, everyone has an opinion about who is responsible and past secrets are starting to come to light. While it is normal for people, and particularly for schoolgirls, to get crushes on someone they shouldn’t become involved with, in Watching You some of these “crushes” appear to be unhealthy. Where is the line between infatuation and obsession? Who are some characters that you think fell on the infatuation side of that line? Who became dangerously obsessed? Looking at examples, what do you think distinguishes them? While I'm not normally a fan of too many different narrators, it works in this case. We get to see different perspectives from each of the characters, so we're always on our toes trying to figure what the truth really is. She wondered if that was how it worked, that while most women spent their lives searching for the perfect man, men sat around waiting to be chosen and then made the best of it.” Reading Paulette Jiles' revenge western Chenneville, it's easy to remember she's a poet. Jewell excels in creating complex characters, building tension and keeping readers in the dark yet riveted until the "Aha!" moments...this thriller unfolds and concludes in a very satisfying way." — Shelf Awareness That’s when you meet the man next door. He’s the head teacher at the local school. Twice your age. Extraordinarily attractive.Do you remember about the first time that you fell in love? Do you remember telling yourself that This is The One? Do you remember fate having other plans for you? BUT ... friends out there who have read this book, please HELP ME! What in the world did I miss at the very end?? The brown hair? Whose was it? Nikki’s as a teenager? Viva’s? Was it not a suicide but a murder? By him or by her, or were they both in on it? I have re-listened to chapters trying to figure it out, and know it was a significant lightbulb moment, but I am just stymied and feel like a bit of a dunce. Two doors down live a well to do heart surgeon and his wife. He is a busy doctor who doesn’t spend a lot of time at home, his wife Rebecca doesn’t seem to mind, she spends most of her time working on the computer, her door is seldom open. We soon find out that she is pregnant and she doesn’t seem to be particularly happy about it. I was captivated into the story straight from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down. This was a very addicting thriller. Something happens and there is a murder and after that I had to find out what was going to happen next. You can tell right in the beginning that everyone has secrets. There are creepy unlikable characters, which I mentioned aren't who they seem to be at the end.
