About this deal

Wet & Dry – Certain models of the Panasonic Arc 5, including the ES-LV9Q & ES-LV6Q tested and reviewed here, are waterproof and can be used when shaving in the shower or in the bath. Users may shave dry or wet with their favorite shaving cream or foam. As mentioned earlier, it all seems really impressive, but in practice, it doesn’t really improve the experience to a significant degree. Shave Sensor – The purpose of the shave sensor technology is to sense the density of beard growth and for the shaver to automatically adjust its power for the density.

The AN/ARC-5 Command Radio Set is a series of radio receivers, transmitters, and accessories carried aboard U.S. Navy aircraft during World War II and for some years afterward. It is described as "a complete multi-channel radio transmitting and receiving set providing communication and navigation facilities for aircraft. The LF-MF-HF components are designed to transmit and receive voice, tone-modulated, and continuous wave (cw) signals." [1] Its flexible design provided AM radiotelephone voice communication and Modulated continuous wave (MCW) and Continuous wave (CW) Morse code modes, all of which are typical capabilities in other Navy aircraft communication sets of the period. It was an improvement of the Navy's ARA/ATA command set. Similar units designated SCR-274-N were used in U.S. Army aircraft. The Army set is based on the ARA/ATA, not the later AN/ARC-5. The ARA/ATA and SCR-274-N series are informally referred to as "ARC-5", despite small differences that render all three series incompatible. Like the AN/ARC-5, the ARA/ATA and SCR-274-N had AM voice communication and two-way MCW and CW Morse code capability. [2] History [ edit ] And while most models are specifically marked as suitable for wet/dry use (ie with shaving cream or in the shower), there are some that are only washable (as in you can clean them with water), but can only be used dry. Obviously, these won’t affect the shaving performance, but some of them are nice to have, especially if you can get a particular feature-rich model at a discounted price. But the most important and difficult part is to figure out which Arc 5 generation/revision makes the most sense for you.

And while the surface of the 5 cutting elements is the same for all Arc 5 models, that can’t be said about the shaving head itself. The latter seems to be very important to some users, but unfortunately, those models are usually only sold in Japan. As a side note, do you have any guide(s) or article(s) on facial trimmers for those that want to maintain a beard rather than a clean shave with a electric foil razor? Reply

Any Arc 5 foil is compatible with any Arc 5 shaver, regardless of the generation/revision. The two inner blades are the same for all Arc 5 models ever released. The one I’m currently using is the Andis Cool Care Plus. It’s effective, cheap and comes in a huge can that lasts forever. It’s very unlikely to have gone defective (with proper use), though not completely impossible. A faulty shaving head is immediately obvious from the first shave and with Panasonic these are extremely rare (quality control is a lot better compared to Braun cassettes for example). So unless it wasn’t induced (like damaging the foil during cleaning or someone dropping the shaver), I would consider other factors. The Panasonic Arc 5 has 5 cutting elements: 4 micro-foils and one central cutter. The structure of an Arc 5 foil: A — a central trimmer, B — two reverse tapered foils, C — two finishing foils The Arc6 arrived without any charge. Having set up the charging / self-cleaning station and putting the Arc6 in its cradle, the shaver took a little under an hour to reach a full charge. I’m in the market of purchasing a high-end Arc 5 or Braun series 9. Looking over this and other detailed guides by you, I’m leaning in 3 different ways: So the answer is yes, some Arc 5 models do shave slightly better than others or are better in certain specific areas, but the differences are marginal. If you have any recommendation to use the cleaning station without purchasing refill, it’s gonna be very welcome.

On another topic, do you have information about a realistic expectation of battery life? The manual says I can expect three years …but it also says I should be able to shave in three minutes & to get two weeks of shaves from a charge. I have yet to finish a shave in anything like three minutes, or to shave for even one week on one charge. So I wonder whether my battery is about to quit any day now, leaving me with an expensive paperweight. Any info would ve appreciated. Reply First and second-generation foil (left) vs the third-generation foil (right). You can see the two gold comfort rollers on the newer foil. To some users, being able to use a shaver while charging is a must-have feature, so there are two such models: the ES-LV7H (includes a cleaning station) and the ES-LV5H (no cleaning station). In the end, I just told them what I wanted to do and was insistent, but polite of course. The ES-LV67 was cheaper than the original one and it came with a free gift, so I actually made out in the end. These rollers are basically two metal bars that spin freely when you move the shaving head over the skin.I then moved onto cleaning the Dynamotor. It was running but not well. Fortunately these are easy to service, they are designed so that anyone with a flat-head screwdriver can fix them. I found a video on servicing a similar motor and proceeded to strip mine down, clean out the old grease in the bearings, put new grease into the bearings, clean the armatures, and re-assemble. Dynamotor worked perfectly, just like new again! Problems with the Tuning Variable Capacitor But if you want the newest iteration, that would be the revision J Arc 5, currently only available from Japan. In the post above you can find the specific model names depending on your needs: with or without a cleaning station, cordless only or cordless & corded etc. Testing capacitors with a DVM in resistance mode will show which are short-circuited but it will not reveal the leaking capacitors that are only leaking ever so slightly (e.g. have extremely high DC impedance) at high voltages. DVM testing only reveals the short-circuited caps, this is a necessary first step.
