About this deal

Next is the fact that the housings can be completely unscrewed and thus easier to replace should they get damaged. This is a feature you only sometimes find on more expensive binoculars and certainly not the case on the majority instruments I test.

Whilst the field of view is excellent and you get a good level of eye-relief, the minimum close focus distance is the part of the equation that inevitably suffers as a result of this. So by no means terrible, it will probably be a little long for those whose main focus is on the close study of things like insects and flowers. A robust high-performance hinge design, replaceable twist-out eye cups, high grade aluminium and a lightweight rubber coated magnesium alloy chassis ensure this binocular can withstand all you throw at it, while the water repellent lens coating offers extra clarity whatever the condition.

The good thing is whilst smaller, they still retain all the positive features found on the larger versions and which are important in this area: The sapphires 8x42 that i bought a couple of weeks ago are in another league both in build and optics quality and i have no eye relief issues with them. However, they are more than twice the price and you would expect a big improvement.

Constructed from magnesium alloy, the body is almost completely covered in a grippy rubber armour, including the lanyard loops on the barrels, with just a few bits of metal left exposed. Like the bigger version, these Hawke Frontier ED X 8x32 binoculars feature an all-metal, magnesium alloy chassis. Delivering outstanding optical performance at any given price point is something Hawke has built its optics business around. So how does the Frontier EDX fare as the new king of the Hawke binocular range? Image quality and field of viewThe Eye Relief was problematic for me. I had to have them rammed right against my glasses. I found the eye pieces steamed up and in general it was very uncomfortable. This WAS a deal breaker. Whilst not what I would consider being a very long eye-relief binocular, for a mid-sized instrument the 16mm is pretty good and in most cases should be enough for those who use glasses to be able to wear them and still achieve the full image. So I got in touch with a whole host of manufacturers and asked what they had and if they would like me to test them.

Designed from conception to offer the best performance available. The magnesium alloy body and high-grade materials are a cut above the rest. Used to calibrate the binoculars and thus allow for any differences in vision between your left and right eyes, the diopter ring is once again the same as that on the 42mm model. Considering their overall difference in dimensions, this is to be expected and as such when compared to other mid-sized instruments they do much better and in my experience are about average. Although some binoculars like the Opticron Traveller BGA ED 10x32 still use large 22mm oculars. Likewise, there is a good variance between the dark and light areas which helps give a good feeling of depth. Objective lens caps are drop down and stay on. But not all users like this, so they can be removed. For the eyepieces, there is a flexible rain guard, which is tapered to snugly fit onto the twist eye cups. The hinge on my sample opened and closed with what I would describe as the ideal level of resistance, meaning that it was easy to adjust, but at the same time would remain at your desired setting. with a full field of view. Without glasses, I found I had a perfect picture with the eye cups twisted all the way up. The classic single hinge design is tried and trusted for comfort; I certainly felt happy using the Frontier ED X Please complete the form below for a quote - Please be as accurate as possible to help us give an accurate quote. There are binoculars that perform better in low light… but not by much, and you can expect them to cost several times what you’d pay for the Frontier EDX.
