About this deal

TerryE - When the plumber (that was too expensive) was on site, he had a look at the incoming 32mm and said he'd just run that right up to the plant room - seems logical to me as it helps with a greater flow rate if I run 32mm as close to the inlets as possible? FloPlast's manufactures a comprehensive range of polyethylene pipes and fittings for use in potable and non-potable applications.

These two books are the perfect starting place to help you get to grips with one of the most vitally important aspects of our society - our homes and living environment. Copyright PlumbNation 2023 PlumbNation, Millennium Court, Enterprise Way, Evesham, Worcestershire, United Kingdom, WR11 1GS.water supply , not sure why you'd need 28mm but makes sense not to starve/reduce potential flow to the combi DHW cold feed as djh says , to other take offs . I think, Shevek, that it would be more useful for all if your threads were more generic and that in future I will be quicker to start another, more specific, thread, if the generic one has drifted or lost interest.

I've kind of got a bee in my bonnet now (thanks to you guys :p) about doing what I can to reduce pressure/flow variations when multiple outlets are open - it's one real bugbear in my current wee flat - the minute one thing comes on (like the washing machine), the hot water taps or shower immediately drop in pressure. I think I may be being a bit thick, but our incoming supply is 32mm, which I'm going to run right up to the plant room and tee off to the UVC and to the cold water manifold and fit a reducer to each. If underground it may be cheaper to first reduce the 32mm MDPE to 25mm and then insert the necessary stop cock and tee off all in 25mm. FloPlast's WRAS approved MDPE Systems are suitable for use below ground on cold water services with polyethylene pipes manufactured in accordance with the requirements of BS EN 12201 - 2 (BLUE). say 28kW , so as to create a safe burn , as with all pipework , you get a reduction in pressure relative to friction, resistance .

Can I assume you've read here and on EB about taking the outside tap off either outside as a tee off the 32mm mains incomer, or immediately after the stopcock eg before the PRedV? For those with an incoming mains pressure that's right at the lower limit of a supply, then there's a great deal of sense in running the biggest pipes you can, as every tiny pressure drop removed helps. It's a balance; from experience I know when I hit a subject with an all encompassing thread I often lose half of what I'm after, potential commentators switch off and I start being very military again with numbered lists and unfriendly looking re-direction.

It is worth running large pipes to supply the combi with cold water, since that doesn't contribute to wasted hot water, and also other things such as the kitchen cold tap, toilets etc. Also is there any reason not to then use a check valve and peglar full bore lever valve in place of the brass stop cock? It does seem a little strange to go all the way to the boiler in 28mm (or 22mm) only to reduce it on the boiler input to 15mm. Most combis have 15mm pipework for DHW, because at the flow rates they support (they have a flow rate limited built-in usually something like 8 to 13 litres per minute - depending on size), the pipe losses for 15mm copper are usually negligible (and as has already been said, smaller pipes between the hot water source and the points of demand gives less wasted hot water). Yes, the DHW outlet for a domestic combi boiler will only be 15mm , generally most just T off as you said. The main downside with having a 15mm cold main going up into the loft and right down to the other end of the house from where it comes in is that it's a bit noisy. Water meters are usually more expensive than 15mm, but you will get the associated flow reduction going to 15mm instead of 22mm. If you would like to change your settings or withdraw consent at any time, the link to do so is in our privacy policy accessible from our home page. If noise issue materialise, then presumably I can do something to reduce the flow to the supply anyway?

Well done for letting people know your outcome, your posts contrast pretty strongly with the ignorant original poster who got some great advice from do it all and others and couldn't even be bothered to say ta.PlumbNation is a trading name of Online Home Retail Ltd (company number 03852312) registered in England. Not so much the location as the material - joints for isolation valves, meters etc are a lot more expensive for MDPE than they are for copper.
