About this deal

I’ve had ‘pure dead brilliant’ shouted at me for years as well. I don’t think it’ll ever go now so I am happy with it. Safely moored we caught up on sleep, cleaned the salt off the boat, there was a lot and in places very hard to reach. But work done we had a crew meal with the other boats at the marina restaurant. It was a great way to get over the challenges of the past two days. The weather has been kind. We are mainly sailing on a beam reach with winds 10-20 knots. The sea state is generally calm, nothing above 2m. It’s a really lovely sail to end our trip on. Fingers crossed it remains so. The newly formed LMS Railway (London Midland & Scottish Railway) was one of several railway companies with display stands at the British Empire Exhibition. Lutyens was originally commissioned to design the dolls' house by Princess Marie Louise (a first cousin to King George) purely as a gift to Queen Mary. However, in 1922, the idea of a British Empire Exhibition was conceived by the British Government and since its objective was to boost the morale of post-war Britain and stimulate trade, it was decided that the dolls' house would be a very suitable centrepiece, particularly if it was furnished with the work, in miniature, of the finest British artists, craftsmen and manufacturers of the day.

Our time here was focused on preparing the boat for our final leg. But the weather was a bigger feature. The outlook for our planned departure date was not good. In fact one weather expert, used by another boat, cautioned against the intended departure with the words - this type of weather sinks boats. We decided to stay a few more days. When a colleague was clearing his desk in the office at Bass Worthington before he retired, my father-in-law rescued for me a miniature made for Queen Mary's dolls' house. It is a Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton Ltd. beer crate, marked 'Bottling Dept.' at both ends. There are six tiny bottles, each with its red triangle label. A former member of the Scottish Labour Party, Smith has been an active member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), having declared her support for Scottish Independence.

The snuff box made from the yew tree associated with her stay at Crookston, added to the collection in 1926, and the ‘Cruikston dollar’, also represented this lasting need ( 1926.24). It seems The Company [HMV] was able to recoup some of the costs of making this wonderful machine and discs by selling authentic copies [of the discs] at their licensed retail shops…" Derek managed to take the tour. I had fallen victim to the previous feast and was in no state to be further than 5 foot from the nearest facility. I stayed onboard. Derek toured the village, swam in the river and exchanged gifts with the locals. I say exchanged, we gave clothes, food and towels and in exchange received a thank you. But these people have so very little having been hit by 3 cyclones in the last two years alone. They are very poor but very welcoming. Given the state of the digestive systems onboard Mary Doll we declined the feast that night and instead we headed out for an overnight sail to Port Villa in Efata.
