About this deal

If you’re looking for a plant based Christmas main meal, side dish or looking for a way to use up leftovers after the big day, this Vegan Hash With Sprouted Lentils & Activated Walnuts is a great recipe. But my favorite uses for these DIY mulling spices are homemade mulled apple cider and mulled wine. How to make homemade mulled apple cider

Ideal as a gift: this would make a beautiful Christmas gift, given in a pretty jar with some festive ribbon. I gifted it to a pregnant friend recently and she loved it. Divine to drink: I don't know about you, but I can think of nothing better than sitting by the fire drinking a huge mug of non-alcoholic mulled wine - simply bliss! The addition of watching the Christmas tree lights twinkle would be divine! To make the mulled wine pouch, put a combination of all the ingredients in the centre of a piece of cheesecloth or muslin, then tie up neatly to seal, so it looks a bit like an old money bag; note that all the ingredients are optional, so adjust the quantities to suit your own taste. The tea can also be stored in the freezer in a freezer safe glass airtight containerfor up to 3 months, however, the flavour of the tea will be noticeably weaker after defrosting and reheating it. Freeze the tea in 1 cup servings so you only have to defrost the desired amount of cups each time. Avoid fully filling the jar – leave a 1-2 inch gap at the top to allow the tea to expand as it freezes. Label each container with the name and date frozen so you know when to drink it by. Add different aromatics: Feel free to add in whatever aromatics sound fun! Fresh ginger slices, cardamom pods, nutmeg, allspice or lemon zest are some other great aromatics to try. Hibiscus, Apple Pieces, Orange Peel, Rosehip, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cloves, Allspice Berry, Natural Flavouring. Versatile: there are plenty of variations in this recipe, so you can adjust both the ingredients and the cooking method to whichever you prefer. Alcohol free. This recipe uses hibiscus and rosehips herbal tea instead of red wine, rum or brandy.

Once you have your sachets made and placed in your jars, all that’s left is tying your tags onto the jars using ribbon or twine. Gluhwein is the German word for mulled wine, translated as "glowing-wine." After one sip you will totally get the *glowing* feeling. Simple: this recipe is oh so easy to make - you really can't mess it up! Just pop all the ingredients in a slow cooker or saucepan and turn it on. Wait awhile and you're ready to go. Easy. Homemade mulled wine is so simple to make with just 5 minutes prep and can be made in a large batch.

All you have to do is heat some apple cider, add your homemade mulling spice sachets, and then simmer until the flavor is right where you want it. With the weather starting to get very chilly I thought it was time to create an alcohol free version. The best wine for making homemade Gluhwein is burgundy wine or a red wine blend: this is not the time for fancy wines. A cheap bottle of red is great!

Germans and their rules: Vintners are not allowed to add tea or juice or anything to their Glühwein. According to the Wine Ordinance (§ 38 (1a)), Glühwein may only be called Vintner Glühwein if the Vintner produced it on their own premises, with their own grapes and only added aromas and spices and natural sugars. The best wines for making mulled wine are those that are full-bodied, dry, fruity, and not overly sweet. Zinfandel, Granche, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon all work well. Tip: Be careful not to overheat your wine! While some wines hold up to heat better than others, alcohol in general starts to vaporize at 173 degrees Fahrenheit (78 degrees Celsius).

You can reheat mulled wine in a coffee mug in the microwave or reheat leftover Gluhwein on the stove top. Germans even have Glühwein for children– called Kinderpunsch or Kinderglühwein (Kids’ punch or kids’ Glühwein). Of course, it does not contain any alcohol. However, it definitely contains tea. So isn’t it natural to put some tea in the adult version too? Tips for making the perfect Glühwein These allergy friendly homemade Dairy Free Christmas Chocolates, which are dairy free, gluten free, soy free and vegan, make the perfect homemade gift or treat during the festive season. Sweetener: Feel free to add your favorite sweetener to taste. Sugar is classic, but I prefer to naturally sweeten mine with either maple syrup or honey. It is a traditional warm spiced wine, often called German mulled wine, that is served in mugs as a cheery warm drink during the winter months throughout Germany and parts of France. Also known as glühwein, vino caliente, glögg, vin brulé, bisschopswijn, vin chaud, candola, vinho quente…or literally a hundred other names, depending on where in the world life may find you. Needless to say, it seems like just about everyone in the world loves some hot wine. And clearly, I can vouch that you all do too! Simmer. Heat until the wine almost reaches a simmer over medium-high heat. (Avoid letting it bubble in any way. Alcohol begins to vaporize at 172°F, so take care to ensure that the wine does not evaporate.) Reduce heat to low, cover completely, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
