About this deal

This story kept me reading till late in the night as I wanted to be sure that my favourite characters were going to survive.

I go through genre phases, and historical fiction and Greek/Roman philosophy and history is where my mind was focused for a while. I finished studying stoicism and decided to read this novel by Scarrow that has been in my Kindle library for a couple of years. I am glad I did. On the other hand, Cato is just a teenager, who previously grew up as a slave in the Imperial Palace. At the start of the series, he joins as Macro’s Optio in the Eagles. The first book of the series is set in 42 A.D. Throughout the series, author Simon Scarrow has shared the experiences of Macro and Cato. This is the next instalment, the twenty first book, in the brilliant ‘Eagles of the Empire’ series. The author evokes what life must have been like in the Roman Empire and in the Roman Army in particular. That's not all that has changed: Cato is no longer the scared young man he had been in the first entries; Macro no longer the seasoned Centurion. Now, Macro is retired from active service whilst Cato - who now has a family of his own - has risen in rank above that that Macro ever reached but is still firm friends with the latter. Simon Scarrow is a British author of historical fictional novels. He was born on October 03, 1962. Simon’s novels have been published in the USA and translation all around the world. Simon Scarrow is a Sunday Times No. 1 bestselling author. The Governor of Britannia has decided now is the time to try and defeat once and for all the troublesome hill tribes of Wales and also the druids who are based on Mona, or Anglesey. He takes most of the available soldiers on the expedition including Cato, leaving most of the country to be protected by a few ill-trained forces, including Camuldonunum which is left to Macro and the few hundred other veterans who have also retired to the town.

Y las pierde en los personajes, flojitos. Y en la ambientación, flojita. Y en que la vida en la legión romana es una pincelada simplota y las batallas tres cuartos de lo mismo. Pero entretiene. To me whilst this is a work of Historical fiction don’t be fooled into thinking I don’t read that genre so the book won’t be for me, it transcends that, revel in the quality of the writing and storytelling, engage with the characters and be prepared to take a glorious journey with two of the Romans finest and bravest Cato and Marco The series has also lost the 'Eagle' that was always included somewhere in the earlier titles ( Under the Eagle, The Eagle's Conquest, The Eagle and the Wolves etc), with that word last used in the title in entry # 7 ( The Eagle in the Sand). Simon Scarrow really makes you care about his characters, over the course of the book and indeed the series you get to know them as real people, it is evident as your Rebellion of the bond and friendship that Cato and Marco share. Fair to say that all the characters within the book come at you in a way that you sense who they are, I particularly enjoy the way that Boudica is portrayed What is to follow is a very exciting and suspenseful Roman adventure, in which Cato will be looked after by Macro, as a kind father and son, and together with their army unit they will encounter various devious and treasonous actions in Britannia, and in a desparate attempt to stop these actions they will have to give their life for Rome and the Emperor, if they want to survive and live for another day. This eventful Roman historical adventure is the 21st volume of the wonderful "Eagle of the Empire" series, featuring Cato & Macro. Well what can I say.. I have been a fan of Simon Scarrows Eagle of the Empire series since 2017 when I discovered the books in my local library.
