About this deal

Their Islay roots ensured a robust, lingering finish, with the smoke and spice notes staying on for an encore. It was a satisfying end note for both whiskies, a round of applause that lingers in your senses, urging you to take another sip. Value for money: With the dramatic rise in the price of the classic 16-year-old, Lagavulin’s 8-year-old is likely to be the only offering that’s actually still affordable for many whisky drinkers. While that in itself seems a terrible shame, it’s reassuring to know there’s still a decent Lagavulin within reach.

Lagavulin 'Jazz Festival 2018' (58.5%, OB, 1st fill American oak barrels, refill American oak hogsheads & European oak puncheons) - by Angus - 020219Wrapping it up, I’ve compiled a scoring table for a head-to-head comparison. These numbers reflect my personal experiences and preferences, aiming to give you an honest perspective. For the Lagavulin 16, you can venture into richer territory. Its robust character stands up to heartier foods. Smoked meats and aged cheeses are a delight when paired with this whisky. And if you’re in for a dessert, dark chocolate matches the rich, smoky sweetness of the Lagavulin 16 perfectly. Lagavulin 30 yo 1991/2022 (44.3%, OB, Cask of Distinction, for Hong Kong Whisky Fellows, House Welley Whisky Bar, Christoph Kirsch, Sebastian Jaeger and Boris Borissov, 1st Fill PX/Oloroso seasoned European oak butt, cask #5403, 318 bottles) - 051222 Lagavulin 16 on the other hand, painted a richer, deeper portrait. A potent blend of profound smoky sweetness was complemented by sea-salty hints that whispered tales of Islay’s rugged coastline. Each sip had unfurling complex layers of ripe fruits, toasted nuts, and a distinguished peat smoke that culminated in a long, spicy finish.

Lagavulin 25 yo 1997/2023 (50.7%, OB, Prima & Ultima, refill American oak cask, 1013 bottles) - 021023 We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Is this a NAS (non age stated) whisky by the way? Technically it fits the profile, being under 10 years old. But they are stating its age. I guess it still is a NAS whisky, because it’s that young… This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. Nose: Tons of kippery peat mixed with a fresh grainy sweetness, like multigrain bread toasted over an industrial fire and slathered in clover honey. Notes of briny salt overlay a fundamental freshness, aromas of ripe pear and soft dried apricot. There’s also a bit of hay-like character, but very lively and fresh-cut. Peat skews towards the maritime, but the smoke is bold too.The Lagavulin 8, though younger and lighter, offers a taste profile that’s vibrant and bold. It’s a good value-for-money proposition, providing a balance of quality and cost that few whiskies in the mid-range can match.
