The fourth studio album by Charlie Simpson, the record was announced on November 16, 2021, along with its tour. The new album will now be released on April 15th, and as with all touring cycles, naturally I want you to have the new album before my upcoming shows, so the tour has been pushed back to May, with the exception of both London shows remaining on April 18 and 19. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Promising audiences a night they won’t forget, the ‘Parachutes’ singer tells fans he plans to play a mix of new songs and old favourites, as well teasing some surprise on-stage moments too! Differing from his previous artistry of anything acoustic, he wanted to "make a more intimate sounding record" and "explore the different ranges of my voice, you know, get to do a bit more than falsetto stuff". And although they convey a sense of sadness and regret in places, ultimately they are utterly uplifting and heartwarming. Having sought refuge in the safety of his home-made recording studio during the first national lockdown two years ago, Simpson channeled any feelings of trepidation and anxiety he may have been feeling due to the destructive nature of the pandemic, into his music – adopting a fresh approach to his songwriting and exploring with a mix of new sonic sounds, by merging confessional lyrics with vocodered vocals and alt-pop synths, to produce his most personal, and profound work to date. The majority of the album was self-produced at Charlie's own recording studio, built from scratch during the global lockdown. I have found the words to be more direct than on his other albums, easier to connect with and find a message in that means something to yourself, as well as to Charlie. It's fascinating how the human psyche has the endless capacity for optimism as a mechanism for overcoming adversity. As people around the world continue to navigate their way through the complexities of everyday life post the darkness of 2020 and 2021, Charlie Simpson provides fans with an optimistic ray of light today (April 22nd) in the form of his fourth studio album, ‘Hope Is A Drug’.The way he uses lyrics and his own production techniques, harmonising with his own voice always draws me into his music. He informed Virgin Radio that most of the tracks were written on the piano, rather than his usual instrument, the guitar. The majority of the album was self-produced at Charlie’s own recording studio, built from scratch during the global lockdown. His sound has evolved slightly but still very much recognisable from his previous three solo albums.
