About this deal

Tony and Carol investigate when a 500-year-old skeleton in unearthed while foundations are being excavated for a hotel extension. However, underneath the body, they find two more modern corpses. And when a journalist vanishes, and the hotel is burnt to the ground, Tony suspects the suspect may be obsessed with Joan of Arc and killing imagined heretics. The first five seasons were outstanding. Even when they replaced the secondary character without much explanation it got on with the business of Dr. Tony Hill so it was ok in the end. Stories were riveting, acting excellent and characters you got to know each episode. But it's hard to sustain and churn out the same week after week and that became evident the last season.

There is often tension between Tony and members of the police in the fictional town of Bradfield: Many don't trust his methods, others are put off by his manner. Sometimes Tony himself manages to get himself suspected of a major crime. Robson Green has to confront a cannibal killer with a deadly vendetta in a new series of the hard-hitting drama, Wire in the Blood. Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Angelica Bain, the killer of 'The Mermaids Singing', is believed to be a man. When she holds Tony hostage, she's revealed to be a pre-op Mt F transperson. Tony believes she's actually a Depraved Homosexual man, but she's played as a deeply disturbing sadist, and Sissy Villain. Very seldom will you find a British murder mystery TV series of this quality were "every single episode is great" not just OK, but great. The Wire in the Blood is truly frightening, McDermid’s capacity to enter the warped mind of a deviant criminal is shiveringly convincing, and she is equally adept at portraying the interactions, allegiances and petty jealousies that exist among the investigators. Hill, driven and disturbed, is an appealing and original character. This is a writer who just gets better and better. As for the meaning… In an interview Robson Green said the phrase wire in the blood was taken to mean a genetic kink, something impure and unusual in the blood, that leads to the kind of psychosis Hill might deal with. Tony and Carol think they've scored early when two murders lead to one man. The trouble is that the man is in prison; could he really be controlling it all from the inside?

I have been seeing quite a lot of this show on TV lately and i find it surprisingly entertaining. Surprisingly because i'm usually no fan at all of the serial-killer genre nor the kind of grisly imagery that this show always provides. But the gratuitous images and the worn-out theme aside this show has a lot to offer. I've been in love with Robson Green for years, and he's in top form here in "Wire in the Blood," a British TV series based on characters created by crime writer Val McDermid. It ran for six seasons and I believe had some specials along the way. Even amongst the UK's best such as Prime suspect or A Touch of Frost. While undoubtedly there great TV series some movie episodes fall short of expectations. But not Wire in the Blood. When human remains are found on wasteland, Alex brings Tony to investigate theories of honour killings and fetishism. But the killer has Tony in his sights and the inquiry becomes frighteningly personal. Torment, Synchronicity and The Mermaids singing were my favourite episodes, but the standard in general is very high, only the final, US set episode didn't quite work for me. Adaptational Villainy: An interesting inversion... the show was an adaptation of Val McDermid's book series, with many changes along the way. Perhaps the biggest was the elimination of the Carol Jordan character when Hermione Norris decided to leave the show. She was replaced with Simone Lahib's Alex Fielding, who became the new heroine/ co-lead for the remainder of the TV series. However, after the TV series ended in 2008, McDermid introduced Alex Fielding into the books in 2013's Cross and Burn... this Alex Fielding looks and sounds like the TV version, but is a completely awful person, and a major antagonist in the book, even believing Tony is a killer and arresting him.

Robson Green was terrific as Tony Hill, a very original character, one it's hard not to like, quirky, but sincere and smart.

Who's Laughing Now?: Killers get their hands on the cops that are hunting them, leading to such scenes. What You Are in the Dark: Of course Tony gets this, especially considering how he immerses himself in the minds of violent killers. Tony is impotent in The Mermaids Singing and his struggle with erectile dysfunction gets mentioned occasionally in later books, but is completely Adapted Out of the series.
