In 2001, Fantasy Productions (FanPro) acquired the license to what was now " Classic BattleTech", CBT for short. They created a new CBT boxed set, but aside from the rebranding and new cover image the changes from the 4th edition were minor. The featured 'Mechs and scenarios remained the same as in the previous (fourth) edition, though the 48 cutout playing pieces (two for each of the 24 'Mech designs) had new artwork for them. In the preface, the current year of the BattleTech universe is given as 3067 while the basic (Level 1) rules remain at the 3025 level. I’m looking forward to playing more games with this ruleset, as I can easily see that playing company-on-company or larger games are still something you’ll get done in an evening after work. It’s definitely a different feel than Total Warfare, in that it satisfies a desire for mass combat rather than simulationist crunch, but it’s a good feel, and one that has a much lower barrier of complexity. Final Thoughts In 2022 CGL released a second edition of its BattleTech Beginner Box in connection with a variety of mercenary themed products. This edition replaced the Wolverine plastic miniature with a Vindicator plastic miniature. (The Wolverine plastic miniature was also included in BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat, so this change removed that overlap.) This product has also been marketed as BattleTech Beginner Box (Vindicator Edition). BattleTechis the world’s greatest armored-combat game. In Alpha Strike, you take command of large-scale engagements with tabletop-miniatures gameplay designed for the modern wargamer.Inside includes everything you need to start tossing dice and charging toward the enemy on your gaming table.
The fourth edition redesigned the rulebook again. Calling itself 'BT4', it states that the "current" year of the BattleTech universe is 3058, while BT4 is set in 3049. It also makes reference to the Rules Levels previously seen in CityTech, Second Edition, and states that the technology described in the BT4 game is Level 1, whereas Level 2 includes the technology available in 3058. Three of the previous edition's four scenarios ("Final Exam", "Trial by Fire", and "Divide and Conquer") were included in the rulebook, with small changes; most importantly, the original (now Unseen) 'Mechs in these scenarios were exchanged for different 'Mechs from BT4's new lineup. This premium variantuses new modeling techniques beingemployed to updateall BattleMech designs. Itcomes unassembled and unpainted. It’s time to come together for one of our own. One of the owner/operators of Iron Wind Metals, aBattleTechlicensed product line since the FASA days, is still waging her own private war withcancer. To assist her family, we are once again dedicating profit from this month’s Premium BattleMech Miniature to her health care expenses. Also included in the box is enough terrain for an entire battlefield. There are 15 fold-up buildings with two different footprints and a variety of different heights, and 10 punch-out card trees. While not tremendously fancy, the terrain looks great and is enough to fill out the recommended 16 terrain pieces the rules call for when setting up a battlefield (a single terrain piece is two of the smaller buildings, one large building, two single trees, or a forest created from between two and four trees to define an area). Fire Moth:The lightest included mech, the Fire Moth is astoundingly fast with fairly high damage, though it’s very fragile – with only one point each of armor and structure it’ll die to the lightest of hits. Included are the D and G variants, the G being used in the second scenario. Both variants are nearly the same, with the D being cheaper and a little slower.
It is the 32nd century. For a millennia, mankind has waged wars across thousands of worlds in human-occupied space. The Great Houses. The Clans. The Periphery. A myriad of star empires claiming ascendance, as others wane or fall. They marshal MechWarrior who owe them fealty, each one the master of a towering avatar of destruction: the BattleMech. You are given command of these modern-day knights, dropped onto a battlefield: use your wits and acumen to bring victory or end up a casualty on a forgotten world. At the dawn of the 31st century, take control of a towering, mechanised avatar of destruction and do battle across a thousand worlds!
The key feature of BattleTech is that the combat units in all these battles are roughly 12-metre-tall humanoid armoured combat units called BattleMechs, powered by fusion reactors and armed with a variety of weapons. These towering machine of destruction are led into battle by experienced MechWarriors that could either be soldier-of-fortune or part of one of the noble Great Houses fighting for supremacy. The march of technology acrossBattleTech’s eras is relentless—but some war machines never die. This PDF-only series includes brand-new BattleMechs and OmniMechs, alongside Classic ’Mechs and combat vehicles from both the Inner Sphere and the Clans rebuilt with the latest technology to keep them competitive on modern battlefields. This series also includes in-universe development notes, battle histories, notable pilots, and record sheets for each unit. Wraith: The second mech completely new to plastic, the Wraith is broadly a better Phoenix Hawk. While they don’t have any ability to do damage at long range, they’re faster and more durable. The TR5 variant can run 2″ further than the TR1. While it has no in-game effect, it also has an absolutely fantastic model.
After FanPro's license expired in 2007, the Classic BattleTech license went to Catalyst Game Labs who created yet another new edition of the boxed set. Most importantly, the cardboard counters were once again replaced by twenty-four plastic miniatures that required no cutting or assembly. The 'Mech lineup remained unchanged since the 4th edition, and the three game scenarios remained the same except for changes to the map layout. Each included unit card has a different mech variant on each side of the card, and can be easily used with dry erase markers as you play the game. To get extra variety out of these mechs, they all have quite a few more variants, all of which are available on the Master Unit List. Clan Mechs BattleTech, 2nd Edition, came with a rulebook (with a proper cover) with gaming and 'Mech construction rules. These were based off the Advanced Battledroids Rules, and form the core of the BattleTech boardgame rules to this day with minimal changes. The vehicle and infantry rules from Battledroids were dropped, but the construction rules were kept with some adjustments. The Battledroids included with this first set as cutout playing pieces were the Stinger, Shadow Hawk, Archer, Griffin, Warhammer, Marauder, Crusader, Wasp, and Rifleman. All of these would later become Unseen. Rubber stands were included for the cutouts. In addition, the Merlin featured in the rulebook as a practical example for the construction rules, but it had no associated picture or cutout.BattleTech is the world's greatest armored combat game. In Alpha Strike, you take command of large-scale engagements, fueled by tabletop miniatures gameplay designed for the modern wargamer. Inside is everything you need to start tossing dice and moving miniatures on your game table. Nova : A classic Clan mech, both the Nova Prime and T variants fill the same role of being a skirmisher. A little slower but more durable than the Pouncer, it does substantially more damage. The Prime can overheat for astounding damage (tied for the most of any mech in the box), and the T does a little more damage on base without the ability to overheat. This premium ‘Mech ALSO comes with an extra torso for the previous release, the Hammerhead! The Hammerhead originally shipped with the wrong torso. So replace it with this one or just kit bash yourself a new FrankenMech with all those extra parts you’ve been collecting! Warhawk:The Warhawk is the biggest included Clan mech (though not the most expensive, the Timber Wolf T takes that trophy). This mech comes with the C and T variants, with the C doing consistent damage out to long range (think of it like two Pouncer Prime’s stapled together), and the T being a closer ranged brawler that can apply heat to the target like the Pouncer T. Inner Sphere Mechs
You command a detachment of these brave warriors dropped onto an unforgiving battlefield: only your wits and tactical acumen will bring victory, or leave you a casualty on a forgotten world.
