About this deal

Ok, firstly, wanna say that I grew up reading Draco Malfoy fanfiction, he was my favorite character in HP. book for me, and if nothing else, I'm content in knowing that my teenage self would've absolutely hated me for not reading this book. it was such a treat to hear stories about the cast members, and it was heartwarming to hear how highly he spoke of all of them.

And Felton’s disastrous audition alongside Anthony Hopkins for the 2012 film “Hitchcock” is deliciously cringeworthy. You have a chapter about Emma and Dan and Rupert — and you're saying they sort of read the chapters before to make sure that you're remembering things correctly?

Best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, Tom Felton has penned a brilliant memoir about growing up playing an iconic role in the series. BuzzFeed had the opportunity to chat with Felton about his book, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard — out wherever books are sold. Tom knows what Harry Potter fans like and he really tapped in to that with each of his stories from his Potter years. An electrician would be queuing for his lunch next to a witch and a goblin, then a cameraman, a carpenter and Hagrid.

So, that's why I think it was so creepy and so evil [for him to] present a physical sort of affection. It’s short, so it should have taken me half a day to read it, but it kept dragging on for a whole week. So, originally, it was inspired by doing Comic Cons around the world and being asked questions about how we were all brought together to make the films. And I'm constantly reminded that details tend to get lost and blurred into one, the more time passes.

It’s always fascinating to see what happened behind the scenes and this offers some very nice tidbits, as well insight into Tom and how his life was before, during, and after the Potter phenomenon.

The chapters that stood out were the ones about his struggles with mental health - the raw and authentic stories lead to an overall important lesson about gratitude. Sometimes we think actors are really just like their characters and I will admit I wasn't a fan of Draco ~ he's the character you love to hate. I enjoyed looking at the pictures that showed his life growing up with his family, and on sets, and the lifelong friendships he made along the way. We stand by the LGBTQ+ community and all fans who found a home in the Harry Potter series and will work to provide a safe space for fans.minor spoilers* i had no clue he had been to rehab multiple times, or that he had dated jade for so long! I’m sure a therapist would tell me that I’m processing my own childhood through the safe lens of looking at someone else’s. I know you also mentioned in the book that they ran a tight ship when it came to sticking to the script, but were there any other times you improvised or maybe wish that you could have improvised at certain moments?
