About this deal

Inside the switch, we find two big heatsinks. A smaller heatsink is located next to the 1GbE ports while the larger heatsink is found next to the 10Gbase-T ports. The switch itself has no moving parts and is passively cooled. That makes the switch silent as well as increasing reliability and lowering power consumption. Netgear GS110MX Internal

Expand your network instantly, and give your devices either 100Mb, 1, 2.5, 5 or 10-Gigabit, automatically Cons: Gets very hot. This is the hottest switch I've ever owned. I have a 5 port 2.5Gbe Unmanaged switch which stays much cooler than this one. The side with the 10Gbe ports gets very hot. I actually have a small case fan pointed at the switch. It's under a desk so I was able to do that. I don't know if it's fine and all within normal operating spec. Considering there are only two 10Gbps, you can add only one 10Gbps device to your existing network.I used the Netgear GS110EMS for more than a week, and the switch worked well. I had no issue with it at all. It was silent though it did get a bit warm during heavy loads -- not to the point I'd be concerned. This switch absolutely sips power. Even at the maximum power consumption on the datasheet, it is still only 1.56W/ port or 3.59Gbps per Watt under maximum load. Adding the management function did hurt these numbers, however only slightly so. I did notice a bit of high-pitch sound coming from it when I used the Multi-Gig port, but only in a quiet room -- chances are most folks won't notice it. So, this wasn't a big deal. In fact, it only made me wonder if I missed that on other Multi-Gig switches. On the underside, the Netgear GS110EMX has two mounting holes and the label with the default access printed on it.

The point is you will need a new power adapter if you want to use this switch in the EU or Asia and other parts of the world -- or you will fry the hardware. Since I travel a lot, I find Netgear's decision on this front is quite bothersome. FullName Mind you, this isn't the first time they closed the case. The first time I opened a case for this switch, the person asked me to do some troubleshooting steps. I did. They closed that case without responding. So then I opened a new case which then led to the above. We really like the extremely small form factor of the Netgear GS110EMX and the fact that there are some very basic features one may want such as setting up port-based VLANs and having prioritized voice VLANs for IP phones. That is great in a small environment. A multitude of mounting options also helps the versatility of this switch. Ports 9 and 10 are the entire value proposition of this switch. They each support both 100Mbps Ethernet as well as 1GbE speeds. These days, that, again is not a reason to buy this switch. Instead, the two ports go beyond just 1GbE and also support 10GbE, 5GbE, and 2.5GbE speeds with RJ-45 Nbase-T ports. This lets one attach fast NAS units, workstations, servers, or even fast Wi-Fi APs to the switch at higher speeds. Netgear GS110MX 2x 10GbE Ports And LED GuideYou can do a lot with the Netgear GS110EMX, including testing the connected cables. Netgear GS110EMX: Excellent (Gigabit) performance You can see that there is also a heat transfer cover with pads that will hit the heatsink. Netgear GS110MX Internal No Management Plug-and-play, automatic connectivity to your router or modem of 4 or 7 additional wired connections. No need for an IT expert! Our standard test suite did not run on this switch because it is the first unmanaged switch we have run. That is something we need to fix in the future. Practically speaking, this switch does not have a management interface. Instead, we loaded ports and passed traffic through the switch trying to hit maximum speeds using a 10Gbase-T NAS as a target. Netgear GS110MX Performance

As such, it's a well-made device. It's compact, and quiet with excellent Gigabit performance in my testing. There's also a great set of networking features, and the lifetime hardware guarantee is hard to beat. Gaming: These switches come with some game-related features for wired consoles, including low latency, port prioritization, and Quality of Service (QoS). Ports 9 and 10 are the entire value proposition of this switch each support 10GbE (10Gbae-T), 5GbE, and 2.5GbE speeds with RJ-45 Nbase-T ports. This lets one attach fast NAS units, workstations, servers, or even fast Wi-Fi APs to the switch at higher speeds. Those ports also operate at 100M/1GbE speeds as well. Netgear GS110EMX 10Gbase T Ports 9 And 10Energy efficient switches that automatically adjusts power consumption according to the link status and cable length.
