About this deal

In 1975, her distinctive style of performance was satirised in an edition of BBC TV's The Two Ronnies, originally broadcast on BBC Two on 23 January 1975. The sketch, titled "Family Entertainment – John & Mrs Mills", occupied the end-of-the-show musical slot in episode 4 of the fourth series. It featured Ronnie Barker as a silk-laden Mrs Mills at piano and Ronnie Corbett as a uniformed Sir John Mills (who was no relation to Mrs Mills). Barker and Corbett performed a medley of Mills-style classics revolving around John Mills' character in the 1969 film Oh! What a Lovely War.

Keen to bring the might of Mrs Mills to the masses, the band have embarked on a small tour of unconventional - some may say confrontational - slots at various venues around London. Finally, Mrs Mills on ‘This Is Your Life,’ screened on 24/12/1974, less than four years before her death: The October 1972 release of 'Another Flippin' Party' saw Gladys standing around with a bunch of penguins. Gladys Mills (née Gladys Jordan) then embarked on a career that lasted well into the 1970s, with her jaunty pub piano renditions of popular and traditional songs like, “The Lambeth Walk,”“Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”, “Hello, Dolly!”, “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” and “Yellow Submarine” making her a hit all around the country, Mrs Mills – Am Schräger Klavier ("At the Diagonal Piano") – (German release of Mrs Mills Plays the Roaring 20s)Despite the band serving something very different to what the dubstep-loving crowd normally listen to, the show went down a storm, as he club loved the show as DJ Disastronaut [Dogstar promoter] commented:

Such was the buzz behind this new outfit that a prestigious Saturday night slot at this year's Vintage Festival was secured - without the band even recording a demo! In late June, the band played their biggest show, bringing the full Mrs Mills honky-tonk pub piano thunder to Brixton's legendary dance venue, The Dogstar on Saturday 30th June. At the age of 43, in December 1961, she made her first television appearance on The Billy Cotton Show. By the end of January 1962, she would be a household name, rising to fame during the same period as her stable-mates The Beatles, with whom she had shared space at Abbey Road Studios (as mentioned in the Beatles Anthology DVD bonus materials).

My Mother the Ragtime Piano Player – 33 rpm 12-inch album, US release of Mrs Mills Plays the Roaring 20s My late mother, God bless her, was an avid fan of Mrs Mills, hence I grew up listening to Gladys ‘tinkling the ivories’– and all these years later, I still enjoy listening! It's Party Time! (reissue). Also released in Scotland, with album art showing Mrs Mills with various cute puppies.

Mrs Gladys Mills was remembered for her sense of fun, and her album covers were rarely serious affairs, as this collection testifies.
