The M series is the oldest product line in this guide – but it’s still a very popular range and you can usually find second-hand units for cheap. There are three different options in this range: M13, M9 & M5. Due to its massive size and considerable weight, I’d recommend the Line 6 M13 to a guitarist who is looking to get a single unit to handle all of their needs, whether it is a matter of getting dirty tones, intricate delays, massive reverbs, and much more. Line6 does not manufacture a case for it, so you might need to find a large pedalboard/case or build one yourself.

It’s significantly cheaper than the full Helix Floor, while still giving you plenty of access to effects. One important feature that's worth getting your head around is the 'scenes' function. This allows you to recall a number of user-inputted combinations of effects - think of it as 24 different pedalboards if you like - and will prove invaluable if you're the member of more than one band, especially if they're of different styles.
