They discover the still-functioning control panel which makes the robots move, and Charlie finds a fourth robot - Foxy. Despite popular belief, William is not actually insane, as he makes mention of the fact that what he is doing is wrong, yet goes through it anyway, likely suggesting that he does not care about morality and simply does it for his own gain. However, it is previously learned in The Silver Eyes that he had an unhealthy obsession with Henry, so obsessed to the point where he wrote countless diaries about him ranging from jealousy to near worship, proving that he wasn't very mentally sound to begin with. He also appears to have no regrets, as in The Fourth Closet, he says that killing the missing children led to great things.

The Missing Children are a group of children who were kidnapped from Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and murdered by William Afton. Upon dying, their souls became attached to the core animatronic crew of Freddy, Bonnie, Foxy, Chica, and Golden Freddy. During the climax of The Silver Eyes, the animatronics chased Charlie through the abandoned pizzeria.

The day after, Jessica, Marla, John, and Clay are in the hospital, near Carlton's side as he is recovering from his near-death injury. The three were guided to an underground pizzeria, where they finally find Charlie. However, they are surrounded by Twisted Bonnie and Twisted Wolf, commanded by William Afton, who is now undead; With his new body, he calls himself Springtrap. The four manage to escape, even managing to burn down Twisted Bonnie and Twisted Wolf. Then Charlie sees that Springtrap escapes and starts chasing him, leaving her friends behind. John, Jessica, and Clay are surrounded by Twisted Bonnie, Twisted Wolf, and Twisted Freddy. However, they are rescued by the original Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, as they destroy the twisted animatronics. At the end of the novel, an injured John very vaguely told the childhood crew about Charlie's death. He went to the cemetery where Charlie had taken him a long time ago, and followed the same path she took. In his head, he began thinking about how Charlie told him that she remembered him confessing his love for her, scolding himself. Approaching two small, plain tombstones, he suddenly felt as though he was being watched. He turned around and saw a girl, who is assumed to be Charlie, standing beneath a tree a few yards away, extending her hand towards him. John's mind went numb, and he walked towards the woman under the tree. In 1995, Jessica arrives in Hurricane, Utah, to attend the launch of a scholarship dedicated to his old friend Michael Brooks, who went missing a decade earlier due to an incident at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Appearing in Chapter 1, she reunites with John and Carlton Burke. Charlie later shows up, and in the middle of their awkward conversations, the four start to talk about Freddy's. They then decide to revisit Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a restaurant Charlie's father once owned. Carlton claims that an incomplete shopping mall has been built in the restaurant's place.

Jessica, in the final chapter, meets up with John, Arty, and Marla, as the four of them are talking about Charlie's death, just then "Charlie" but in an altered appearance comes in the diner, as Jessica and Marla happily run up to her. However, Arty and John remain at the booth confused. John, Jessica, and Clay Burke went to see Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Golden Freddy inside of Clay's basement to save Charlie from William Afton (who is now referred as Springtrap), Twisted Freddy, Twisted Wolf and Twisted Bonnie. When John crouched down in front of Golden Freddy ,and he saw a little spark of light. John knew that Golden Freddy was still possessed by their old friend Michael Brooks and the children that were murdered by William Afton. When John tried to convince the animatronics to help them find and rescue Charlie, he had mentioned Afton's name. The four main animatronics suddenly began to twitch and shake violently on the floor. Originally, Golden Freddy was Fredbear at Fredbears family dinner, however after it closed he was seemingly transported to Freddys and used by William Afton to lure in a child named Michael Brooks, who he killed and stuffed into the fredbear suit, causing the suit to be possesed by his soul and thus creating Golden Freddy

Later, John, Jessica, and Clay get a response that Charlie was captured. John proposes to ask Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, (who are kept in Clay's basement) to help them rescue Charlie. In the basement, John asks for their help to stop the creations of William Afton. However, the five animatronics don't respond at first until John mentions William Afton which causes the animatronics to go berserk and haywire leading them to escape. John, Jessica, and Clay decide to follow them with the hope that they will be taken to where Charlie is.
