About this deal

In this gripping and ultimately uplifting saga set in turn of the century London, young Kitty Cox moves up from the slums of the East End to become a ladies maid in Mayfair, only to find herself facing a life of hardship once more. I find her irritating and bland and the only reason I continued with it and enjoyed it was the addition of all the other family members.

When Tom is sent packing, Effie is driven to desperation and she steals Jacob’s hidden cache of money and escapes with her son. Everything turns on it’s head when Piers Blanchard lays a claim to the Rockwood estate - his injection of funds is most welcome, but not the confusion that is set in place when in turn Blaise Ewart lays a claim to Blanchard’s home, forcing two families to live together.Court began her career in commercial script writing, before embarking on the writing journey which would land her a position on the top of bestselling lists across almost three decades. Left on the steps of an orphanage when she was just days old, Nancy Sunday was brought up in hardship " until the kindly Rosa. It isn't long before she gains their loyalty and trust and soon Greystone Park begins to shine again. She is married with two grown-up children, four grandchildren and three beautiful great-grandchildren.

To me the characters were like something out of a Jane Eyre or Daphne Du Maurier novel, and I could often see myself imagining Judy Dench as Lady Pentelow, and Keira Knightly as Rosalind…the jury is still out in my mind as to who would play Piers! She grew up in North East London and began her career in television, writing scripts for commercials. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, the story had no depth and there was a lot of repetition! I bought this to complete another set of books by this excellent author and cannot wait to read the whole series. So when an impoverished actress offers her a lifeline, Dolly flees to London, determined to make it on the stage and prove to her family - and herself - that she can strike out alone. Her new novel, The Constant Heart, set in turn-of-the-twentieth-century London, follows many previous bestsellers including Mermaids Singing and A Mother’s Courage. This detail induces a kind of nostalgia that makes the reader feel they have lived through the time in the books. I’ve always been very sceptical of books by this author as they seem to be all over the shelves in the supermarket, and I find it hard to believe someone can be so prolific and maintain quality.

Dilly Court is best known for her dramatic family sagas of domestic-romance fiction, but has also written several standalone novels in the same genre. Don’t forget to sign up for my new dedicated newsletter to receive exclusive extracts and competitions…as well updates on my new books! Sometimes I get so immersed in the story that I forget everything and time passes so swiftly that, when I do stop, I can’t believe two or three hours have passed. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook).Effie and Tom see little of the pittance they are able to earn by trading along the River Lea, and with no other family to support them they have no choice but to put up with their increasingly difficult situation.
