About this deal

Leather boot care is a little different from rubber boots. Many brands like Dubarry, which produce rubber boots, also have excellent care kits that you can buy and apply to the boots when needed. If you think it’s time to give the inside of your wellies a little bit of attention too, then remove the insoles and wash them separately. These can also be washed with a microfibre cloth and soapy water, making sure not to completely saturate the insoles. Dubarry, of course, produces some of the best leather boots and care kits on the market and are worth looking into – especially if you want boots that are going to last decades. Zip it - If your boots have zips, make sure you spray a little silicon spray on them and open an close a few times, then leave closed. This tip alone can save a pair of boots from a premature visit to the scrapheap – if your zip fails, you won’t be able to get your boots on. Also, make sure you zip all the way up when wearing to prevent dirt getting into the zip An old toothbrush is ideal for cleaning the tread in the soles. Dip the toothbrush in the soapy water and give the treads a good scrub.

What’s that bloom? - Occasionally, on high-quality boots such as our Le Chameau and Barbour wellingtons at Gun Hill, you might notice a white powdery "bloom" on the boots. This is actually quite normal – it’s insoluble particles that have risen to the surface, which is mainly due to the characteristic of a premium product made from natural high-grade rubber. Fortunately, this will not compromise the durability or performance of the boots and will disappear. Take care of it with a little silicone spray. Great product but you have replaced a good sturdy metal handle with a cheap plastic flimsy version. Hope it stands the test of time otherwise a great product, otherwise a brilliant idea and works well Don’t be hasty – leave them to dry naturally. However, if the kettle is on and you want to speed up the process, then stuff them with some newspaper and leave them to soak up the water. While it might be tempting to leave them on a radiator, we would advise against it. Insoles should be air dried separately overnight. Using a soft cloth, apply leather care cream onto the boot – with most of your attention focused on the toe, as this is the area most likely to suffer. Really like this product and it does what it says on the tin. It gets your wellies clean after a few hours out in the field. To speed drying, stuff the boots with a clean towel or tissue paper for an hour. Remove and finish the air-drying process. Make up another bowl of soapy water – using a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in a litre of water – and repeat the wiping process, leaving the soles for later. Solvents and detergents are not advised. Depending on how muddy the wellies are, you may need to use a bit of elbow grease and some circular motions to shift some of the dirt. Some welly connoisseurs swear by wiping a few drops of olive oil on a cloth on to the jaded boot, working in small areas from the top to the bottom. But a word of warning – never apply the sprays or oil to the soles, or you might end up sitting in a puddle. Cleaning the inside of the boot

Scuff marks are a common find on a pair of well-loved rubber wellington boots. They can be unsightly, and many people would rather get rid of them than have them so apparent on their footwear. The whole point of wellington boots is for them to get muddy so that you don’t, however knowing how to clean wellies will not only make them look better, but last longer, too. Whether you own traditional rubber wellies or cosy neoprene welly boots – worn all day and every day on the yard – or a fashion-statement pair for weekend walks, they’re all worth a regular clean inside and out. Rubber wellies are fairly easy to clean and maintain. There are rubber care kits for Hunter wellies available, as well as for other popular brands such as Le Chameau and Aigle.Once that is done, take a separate clean cloth and some plain warm water, using it to rinse the interior of your boot gently. Our welly boots are such an important part of our lives, especially living in the wet and muddy conditions that Britain provides us with. To avoid damage to the lovely appearance of your wellies, we would recommend using a boot remover. Or ask the children to give them a good tug! But until you have walked a mile in our… wellies, we understand that you might not be quite as confident. So, to show you how much we believe in our boots, each pair is covered by our ‘one-year welly guarantee’.

For the light marks, you can use a simple eraser, even the ones found on the top of pencils. If the scuffs are a little too deep for that, simply take some non-gel toothpaste and rub it in with your finger. After rinsing and drying, this should remove scuff marks, or at least reduce them. You can often buy creams and spraysthat create better moisture resistance in excellent kits from the manufacturer of your wellies. To clean a dirty interior, mix a solution of dishwashing liquid and hot water (similar to the one noted above) and dip a clean cloth into it. Scrub the inside of your boot, releasing any dirt and grime that might be inside. Our Store Basics range is designed to be an affordable, entry-level range of solutions for everyday life. The boots will also keep in better shape, especially after extended periods of time, if boot trees are inserted into them. However, be careful not to rub too hard or your will end up wearing the rubber down. Be sure to rinse all of the liquid mixtures off as well, otherwise, your boots could become slippery and dangerous to wear. Mix a little non-biological detergent liquid, such as Persil, in some warm water. Dampen a cloth in the soapy water and wipe the whole of the interior. Repeat the process to wipe off the soapy residue with plain water. In the summer, when your boots are resigned to the cupboard, you can store a lavender or other sweet-scented sachet into the boot to keep it smelling fresh. Drying your wellington boots
