About this deal

The gamma value shows a deviation of up to 0.14 and is almost beyond the prescribed value of 2.2 over the entire measuring range. The color representation is also quite noticeable as being imprecise. At least the budget model offers an ALLM Feature to improve the delay during controller inputs and will make friends of the cloud gaming front happy. QLED, on the other hand, is a proprietary technology developed by Samsung. QLED uses a filter of quantum dots to enhance color and contrast and make do with several dimming zones to vary brightness across the screen – rather than being able to do so with each pixel individually. QLED TVs are also a lot brighter than OLEDs (thousands of nits versus hundreds) though they can struggle to show both light and dark images as effectively at the same time as a result.

TechRadar Samsung TV vs LG TV: which TV brand is better? | TechRadar

LG UR78: LG’s entry-level UHD TV in 2023, the UR78 runs web0S 23, is powered by the sixth-gen α5 AI Processor 4K and has a native refresh rate of 50Hz. It doesn’t have as robust an audio setup on board as the rest of the UR range, with AI Sound limited to virtual 5.1 up-mixing rather than 5.1.2 up-mixing. If you don’t mind settling for an older version of the webOS operating system, and less impressive picture and audio performance, you can save yourself a fair amount of cash by opting for an older LG TV. Based on the values we measured, we completely readjusted the LG UQ81. Even though we were not completely satisfied with the final result, we could still get some precision out of the panel.Like just about every other TV manufacturer, LG has a penchant for labelling its televisions with long-winded model numbers comprised of what seem to be random numbers and letters. You won’t find any gaming features on the UQ81 that would allow you to play next-gen titles. LG would have to provide an HDMI 2.1 interface and 120 hertz for that. But this is simply not part of the specifications. You will also have to do without three-dimensional surround sound and sometimes show some patience when navigating through webOS 22. We've always been fans of LG's simple webOS smart TV platform. OLEDs are handled slightly differently from the rest of LG’s range so let’s look at those first. Taking the OLED83C34LA as our example, the model number can be broken down into five parts:

That being said, Samsung is dipping its toe into OLED TVs, having launched the Samsung S95B in 2022. Although it's technically what Samsung is calling QD-OLED. Because in this display there's actually a whole new type of OLED technology – one that combines the famous self-emissive properties of OLED with the brightness and color range potential of QLED. Apart from that, the LG UQ81 features HGiG for displaying HDR High Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range) content and offers you the Game Optimizer, which is already known from more expensive devices. Admittedly, the preferred HDR format is only really a concern at the higher end of the price range, but those spending big should think carefully about which services they’re likely to want HDR content on.With our help, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting if you decide that your next television is going to be an LG. Both are South Korean manufacturers that sell televisions globally and have a significant presence in the UK and US – unlike Panasonic or Philips, brands that don't have licenses in North America – with a large install base and a broad range of televisions launched each year. OLEDs typically make up a significant proportion of LG’s TV lineup and that remains the case in 2023. There’s no A series being released in the UK in 2023, but otherwise, the lineup looks very similar to last year. Samsung is currently the market leader, but which TV brand you choose is entirely up to you, your preferences and whether any of the differences we've highlighted above are dealbreakers for you. It's worth bearing in mind, however, that you'll want to compare like for like. A high-end set for Samsung, for example, will always beat a budget set from LG, and vice versa. If you look at the screen from an angle, the picture remains of good quality for the most part. The saturation only decreases at a comparatively wide perspective, and only then does a slight pallor appear. The screen clearly shows its advantages here, but of course we cannot enjoy the typical OLED level.
