About this deal

Combine that with the fantastically illustrated behaviour cards and you've got a true horror show going on! On the less aesthetic side, the cards are of similar quality to that of the core game and the models are sturdy and robust, any eager painter could easily make these beasties look a much more frightening to get that true immersion. The Resident Evil 2 theme definitely comes through. If you’re a fan of the video game, you’ll recognize everything, from the characters to the locations to the items you find. Also, the story plays out pretty much exactly as it does in the video game. If you’re new to Resident Evil board games, today’s post is for you. But don’t worry, veterans. I’ll do my best to entertain you, too!

Because Resident Evil: The Board Game builds on the tried-and-tested survival horror engine of the previous two board games that kept players on the edge of their seats, all while introducing brand new mechanics (like puzzles!) and a stage-reveal map system to keep you on your toes. Like Into the Darkness, Bleak Outpost includes six gripping new scenarios and adds 8 hours of extra gameplay to your Resident Evil: The Board Game campaigns. So, whether you’re here to see what’s different or curious whether tabletop Resident Evil is right for you, welcome! Let’s see what Sherwin, Lead Designer, has to share...Including six gripping new scenarios, this expansion adds 8 hours of extra gameplay to your Resident Evil: The Board Game campaigns. Or, play each scenario as a terrifying standalone experience!

Now, if all this sounds pretty straightforward so far, it’s because we’ve deliberately kept the rules as user-friendly and intuitive as possible. But don’t let that fool you. Resource management, rising tension, jump scares, atmospheric environments, narrative, isolation, strategic depth of movement.Fear is an interesting thing. Some people are terrified of heights, some of enclosed spaces, some of needles. It affects us differently and some fears seem irrational to outsiders looking in. Some genius at Capcom noticed this and considered what the most common irrational fear was and decided to slap it into the Resident Evil 2 original video game. And now, Steamforged Games have lovingly hosted it within Resident Evil 2: The Board Game as a mini boss expansion in Murder from Above! The first couple of scenarios are kind of like tutorial missions, but I still think they should have made them a bit more challenging. I would never play those scenarios again as one-offs. Should you have the mettle to add these abominations into your collection, you'll be given behaviour cards for them, the magnificently disgusting models for Stages Two and Four, and three item cards for your troubles. It's no lie that any boss will add an extra element of danger into the mix, but these guys mean business. G Stage Two will pursue, swipe at, and maim your characters relentlessly in a game of cat and mouse around the tiny play area.

Steamforged Games don't skimp on the details for any miniatures, and these two look as gruesome as you'd want them to. You can see the coils of stretched flesh along the chest of Stage Two, and the refined mutated hide of Stage Four. It's clear that neither of these would win a beauty contest, but that's the point! Their hideous visuals are half the fear, with the other half being entirely centred around what they will do with those massive, blood stained talons. Resident Evil 2: The Board Game is a cooperative horror board game based on the popular video game. Just like in the video game, your goal is to get out of Raccoon City by making your way past undead monsters and completing your objectives. Feeling brave, Survivors? Then let’s head where few others dare to tread. Deep into the darkness, where mutant monsters make their lairs… But what is Resident Evil: The Board Game? And, more importantly: Can you survive the horror? What is Resident Evil: The Board Game? During the Tension Phase, you’ll draw and resolve a Tension card. Most of them are “All Clear” cards and nothing happens, but there are some that make areas tougher to get through or add more zombies to the board.Well, in Resident Evil board games, enemies don’t take their own turns. Instead, not unlike a turn-based strategy computer game, enemies will react as part of your turn. We’ll cover that in more detail in the reaction phase, below. The original game’s B-Files were a core element of the story; it added depth, gave answers and explained what happened to the other survivors of the G-Virus incident. This expansion is an excellent reflection of that side to the story. The inclusion of Mr X’s mechanic to simply burst into a scenario keeps you on your toes more than the core game. It makes it less about clearing rooms and more about keeping a clear focus. Enter the lonely Guardhouse and underground Aqua Ring in tense new scenarios featuring sinister new mechanics. You’ll encounter flooded tiles, undead insects, the ferocious Neptune, and the constant threat of Plant-42’s searching vines dragging you into the depths…

The undead aren’t the only danger roaming the mansion and its grounds. Strange creatures lurk in the darkness, watching and waiting for their moment to strike. There are even a few cards that break the fourth wall, including one that cautions you to keep quiet when discussing your plans, in case enemies hear...There are still some other 2019 releases that I need to play, but as of right now Resident Evil 2: The Board Game is one of my top 5 cooperative games of the year. On top of that, we had full ammo from the free choice set-up. If you are going to include it in a free play scenario, I’d seriously recommend you don’t allow it to leave its spawn room. In the campaign however, the Giant Moth is far more intimidating as you’ll be going in half prepared and suffering from everything you’ve previously experienced, as was intended! Component Quality and Replay-ability
