About this deal

The content is really spectacular, providing details on how yarns are twisted, along with a variety of different weaving techniques that are used in fabric manufacturing. It has a ring binder format for inserting new information with the study questions and the assignments. The textbook with activities, 210 exclusive fabric samples, Quick Reference Guide tables, pre-printed mounting boards for quick access to all swatches, and an 8x metal pick glass are all contained in a sturdy three-ring binder. I’m not sure I could’ve named 25 different types of fabric, let alone 125, before picking up this book! I am lucky enough to have a first edition of this book, so I don’t need to be in the drawing, but I want to say that I love having it on hand and have used it countless times to check the difference of fabrics.

I haven’t exhaustively analyzed its oversights but most objections readers may have are related to difference between UK and US English as its authors are English. Kathleen is the author of The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing, the most highly rated book of any topic in the garment industry. I’m pretty new to clothing sewing and I love all my sewing bloggers, but when ya’ll talk about this fabric or that fabric, I have no idea what it means. I had my eye on the first edition, but it’s been out of print for some time, so I was really excited to receive this from Laurence King.

I was even more excited when I received “Fabric for Fashion: The Swatch Book, Revised 2nd edition with 142 Fabrics and Yarns” as a gift. great for specialisation talks around career pathways, good contemporary references, and good resource book overall with a comprehensive list of certifications. Another issue related to verbiage is probably splitting hairs; for example, the discussion of cupro and viscose. What the book is: A ring bound hardcover book drilled down to 87 pages with the most essential information. She's been mentioned numerous times in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, National Public Radio, Boston Globe, LA Times, Vogue, French Vogue and has at least 15 Project Runway alums at last count.

I might want to get some book with even more information on the fabric, but the swatches, they are the major advantage of this book. It's great that there are no colours or patterns on the swatches so I'm not influenced by anything other than the feel and the description of what the fabric is good for. Secured in an attractive ring-bound folder, with descriptions alongside them, the fabrics are in their raw state, before bleaching, dying, or finishing, so that their properties can be observed without thedistraction of color or pattern. The authors offer much to learn about trademarked biosynthetics (fabrics generated in part from renewable resources), plants that form the basis of novel fabrics, and different collaboration and activist groups formed to meet sustainability goals. She is curator at The Sustainable Angle and in this role curates for the Future Fabrics Expo, delivers brand advisories and speaks at conferences internationally. Now lets talk about my favorite of the two, The Swatch Book: "This book is an easily navigable swatch resource guide that aims to provide an introduction to a basic understanding of fabrics, and to support study into specific fibers and basic weaves. It is the right match for the people in the fashion industry who are exhaustive users of colored pencils, artist-makers, pens, crayons, and more.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The book is divided into sections about animal fibers, plant fibers, and man-made fibers, and is subdivided into smaller groups within each section. Natural fabrics such as cottons, silks, wools and linens are included, as are artificial and synthetic fabrics like nylons, polyesters, microfibres, metallics and soya fabrics, and fabrics made from alternative plant fibres like bamboo and hemp. This book is well designed - the useful terminology panels are helpful, its divided into user friendly sections that lead you through 4 different sections (all colour coded on the side of the pages) there are intros to techniques that are well written and informative, there is history as well as market information. Clive Hallet is a freelance design consultant and a senior lecturer on a post-graduate course in Fashion Management at Northmubria University.A bestseller for over 10 years, Fabric for Fashion: The Swatchbook is a unique resource with 142 swatches and yarns of the most recognized and widely used varieties of fabric to encourage consideration of not just their aesthetic appeal but also their structure, feel and weight. The first is a wonderfully illustrated book that explains the properties of different fabrics, their history, use and characteristics. Clive Hallett is an associate lecturer in design management at The London College of Fashion as well as lecturing at several other fashion colleges.
