About this deal

Back to Blogs “Give back to the people who give to you, look for those who may need your help – give without expecting back. Firstly let me start by saying that I think Rachael Bland was a really brilliant radio presenter, and I think her work on 'You, Me and the Big C' was absolutely brilliant. Yes her cancer is covered but actually it is more about her as a woman and her life, which was so lovely to be able to read. She then moved to BBC Radio 5 Live, at first reading the news on Richard Bacon's show, where she became the straight talking foil to Bacon on The Special Half Hour Club. Bland competed as a triathlete, including the 2010 London Triathlon, raising funds for Breast Cancer Care.

Courageous and self-effacing, funny and heartbreaking, this truly inspirational personal memoir will bring recognition and comfort to all parents. This "new normal", with Bland's metastasised and untreatable cancer, robbed the presenter of her future. When the devastating news came in the summer of 2018 that Rachael had weeks to live, she knew that she wanted to leave her treasured three-year-old son, Freddie, a gift he would keep for ever: the story of her life. Rachael has a way with words that pours out on the page her love for others and especially her young son Freddie. The pair have just recorded their penultimate episode in front of a live audience, as part of a BBC Radio 5 Live ‘day of hope’. Recently he posted an Instagram picture which showed just how similar the pair looked at the same age. Truth about Neighbours star Troy Beckwith's death at age 48 as family announce there will be no funeral: 'He fought a tough battle.

He’s contributed enormously to removing the stigma surrounding death, helping others give voice to their own pain and the fallout of losing someone. So I tuck them away, graciously accept every little hug, squeeze, cuddle and utterance of “I love you so much, mummy” and try not to let him see it break my heart. It has certainly helped me - still processing the death of my best friend at the age of 24 from cancer. I would lay you in your cot each night and communicate from my mind to yours, 'I will do this, Freddie - I will take it gladly if it means we can still stay together'.I organised holidays for the family and made sure that every minute we spent together was special in some way. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. However, I think that Rachael was a truly remarkable woman who normalised talking about cancer and dying through her podcast and her blog, and I think this will be a wonderful thing for her son to read one day.

And now, having felt that I got to know her after her death through her sharing of her story, I've read the story of her life as left to her little boy. BBC presenter Rachael Bland's widower reveals their son Freddie, 6, asks his new girlfriend: 'Are you my mummy now? For us, we feel like our stories are less relevant to someone who’s going through it now, but we hope we can find some other people who’ve got the same energy that the girls had when they started it, the same passion and fire and the same desire to help – that would be amazing. His seven-year-old son Freddie was only a week away from his third birthday when his mum Rachael died.
