About this deal

Four men who meet as college roommates move to New York and spend the next three decades gaining renown in their professions—as an architect, painter, actor and lawyer—and struggling with demons in their intertwined personal lives. Aya was a piano genius, until she ran away from the stage and vanished; will the tall and talented Makun bring her back? this took me ages to read cos i got distracted- mixed opinions, i think the way she was able to describe each piano players skill and technique draws you in and they each have their own unique description and qualities. There plot itself is very straightforward and predictable about halfway through the second round, and some of the surprises for the characters aren’t surprises for the readers.

However I loved that we followed a piano competition, but just like the circus in The Night Circus is the main event but not the overarching element in the story, the competition here is the thread that binds it all together but is not completely the focus of the story either. Set in a dystopian near future, Ng’s outstanding third novel envisages a draconian US in which Asians and Asian-Americans are treated with mistrust, contempt and violence. I think that if you don’t end up invested, this is a painful read and you’re going to stop reading pretty early on. Onda’s novel is both about people’s reactions to music and about the skill that it takes to wrest divine truths from notes applied to paper. It was fantastic though, slow, so not for everyone, but pfew does it make your heart melt a little and make you give a silent thank you to music. This was a thoughtful presentation of life as a competition pianist that also dwelt deeply on the nature of music and the different ways it can be both performed and perceived. Masaru has come into the competition as an early favorite, as he’s also considered a prodigy and his mentor is one of the judges.

The BookBrowse Review" - BookBrowse's membership magazine, and in our weekly " Publishing This Week" newsletter. It’s a cut-throat and terrifying industry, and unless you come from a wealthy household, it would be difficult to begin and continue playing. There’s just something about this book and its unabashed reverence for the power of music and the love these performers have for their art that really got to me.Fiquei muito comovida com esta característica do livro e dei por mim a chorar ao ler algumas partes, não de tristeza porque não é um livro triste, mas de felicidade por eles, por tudo o que alcançaram ao longo das 2 semanas. Or will it be child of nature, Jin, a pianist without a piano, who carries the sound of his father’s bees wherever he goes? This book follows a group of people competing in an international piano competition in a small Japanese town. We meet a lot of people, but never for a second did I lose count of who’s who and I was invested in all of them from the start.

Ultimately, Honeybees and Distant Thunder is a story that could be described as a love letter to music and nature.Translated literature is harder to find at my local library, but I cherish it whenever I can spot it. Often, it described performances on the piano so vividly, that even someone like myself who is certainly no musician or has never taken any music classes ever could really follow and almost live through.

Skupiła się na każdym utworze, każdemu wyznaczyła zadanie, każdy opowiadał inną historię, w których to pisarzami byli bohaterowie, młodzi pianiści. Previously translated works include the whodunnit-style mysteries, The Aosawa Murders and Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight, both translated by Alison Watts.Together, Kit and Piglet are the picture of domestic bliss - effortless hosts, planning a covetable wedding . Though Honeybees and Distant Thunder is centered around the Yoshigae International Piano Competition, a fictional contest set in a rural seaside town, the story is strongly character-driven. Round 1 is incredibly longer than the other rounds, and we don’t get the full scope of the romance aspects.
