There plot itself is very straightforward and predictable about halfway through the second round, and some of the surprises for the characters aren’t surprises for the readers.

However I loved that we followed a piano competition, but just like the circus in The Night Circus is the main event but not the overarching element in the story, the competition here is the thread that binds it all together but is not completely the focus of the story either.
