About this deal

I'm already used to using the iPad Pro with the keyboard and trackpad built into the Magic Keyboard case, and in this dock the computer-like experience becomes even more compelling -- and sometimes uncanny.

The StudioDock is mostly made from aluminum and is sturdy enough that you can adjust the iPad’s position without it moving on your desk, making it easy to switch between portrait and landscape modes or tilt the vertical viewing angle. from November 1st, 2023 to December 25, 2023, are eligible for a Replacement until January 31, 2024.

I disagree; it's up to Apple to make the file system management more straightforward and accessible. But the incompatibility is unfortunate for such an expensive product, especially since it was only just released.

But I have a feeling if Kensington went any higher the center of gravity would be affected to the point of making the StudioDock too top-heavy when an iPad is attached and you're attempting to tap/swipe/draw on the screen. You don’t have to carry it around if you don’t need it — a problem with Apple’s excellent Magic Keyboard — and the typing experience is often much improved, ready to make good use of the iPad’s now undeniable productivity skills. It worked with my 21:9 monitor, but doesn’t scale the iPad to fit the screen, and you need a mouse or trackpad to interact with the mirrored screen. But for the most part, Kensington’s attempt to morph the iPad into a desktop computer actually works. And all the things I can do on the iPad (like using the cloud, using touch input) can also be used on a Notebook with touch or with a (way more precise) Wakom tablet if I like.

While there is no question that FCPX is coming to the iPad (i am both a FCPX and Resolve user)— there is no question that post-iPadOS 15 desktop-level apps are coming! I have a setup with the Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad + a generic 20 dollar ipad stand similar to the OMOTON T2 / Anozer Ipad stand etc. AirPods, iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad Pro can all charge with StudioDock, but it is also a versatile hub to connect SSDs, Ethernet, SD cards, and more.

Apple ecosystem charging includes Qi wireless iPhone and AirPod charging, as well as optional charging for Apple Watch (K34032WW, sold separately) and the iPad itself. and Exposed Magazine, Darragh started his career writing about the tech industry at Time Out Dubai and ShortList Dubai, covering everything from the latest iPhone models and Huawei laptops to massive Esports events in the Middle East. Then came desktop-grade productivity apps like Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Da Vinci Resolve, preceded by Microsoft 365 and Adobe’s editing tools. This might not be a problem for those under 6ft tall, but I stand at 6’2" and if I’m sitting, using the StudioDock on the same surface that my keyboard is on, I’m still looking down at my iPad’s screen. Some days I enjoy the more minimal, distraction-free workflow of the iPad while some days it's nice to have a larger screen and more flexible OS.The iPad Pro is extremely versatile in keyboard/trackpad mode, but it sometimes makes me wish I could just open up more windows, like a Mac. I’m a fan of its base’s thick, round corners, which offer a platform to place your iPhone and AirPods for wireless charging. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of my internet plan, I wasn't able to test out the maximum speeds to see if the Ethernet port was indeed faster than Wi-Fi, but I can say both options topped out my 500Mbps download speeds in various speed tests.

If you just want to elevate the iPad or use different angles, then a simpler iPad holder for bed or an iPad wall mount might be better for you.Using external storage with an iPad isn't all that much different from a Mac nowadays, at least within the Files app. It’s heavy and ungainly to carry around for a start, plus to make use of all the features, it requires power, and that means lugging the sizable power brick around with you.
