About this deal

He has some strong opinions on her writing, including that of who the killer is (or should be), and offers his advice, welcome or otherwise, with edits and corrections to improve her work. This man, Leo Johnson, is also an author, very down in the dumps about the publishing industry’s lack of interest in his book.

Initially, the source of the scream is not revealed until the next day when it is made public that the body of a young woman, who worked for a local tabloid, had been found. if anything, it disrupts the flow of the mystery in the main plot, taking the reader out of moments that could have been tense if not for the disruption.Crime author Hannah Tigone is writing her latest mystery about a group of strangers, Freddie, Cain, Whit and Marigold, who become bonded together after hearing a scream in a library where a woman is later found dead. He wants Freddie to experience abuse for falling in love with Cain, for Marigold to get the relationship she wants with Whit, and for Marigold not to be the murderer. But I thought it was as dull as a murder mystery can be, with hardly any surprises or twists or even clues. Winner of the Crime Fiction Lover Best Indie Crime Novel of 2022'Ingenious, light-hearted and old-fashioned in the best possible way. I guessed I had to turn the pages faster to find out more about these four people and how their paths get crossed as more violence and murders are thrown into the equation.

Sheila Liming explores the connection between libraries and self-making in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American culture, from the 1860s to the 1930s, focusing on Edith Wharton and her remarkable collection of books. Narrator Katherine Littrell…voices subtly different accents for all the American characters and an Australian accent for both Hannah and the fictitious Winifred. As she learns more about Marigold’s stalking of Whit and the true story of Cain’s early life, she begins to suspect that everyone in the group has secrets, and she is not sure whom to trust. The way she processed everything through the lens of an author, plotting connections and possibilities as if it were a novel she’s writing was great. She’s fickle and easily offended, likely to sulk if I don’t give her my complete attention when she’s gracing me with her presence.
