About this deal

And because of the sock-fit at the ankle you can actually afford to go as deep as you dare right up to the ankle cuff. On dry rocks, however, they are super grippy making me feel really confident hopping from one rock to another. Compared to the Magna FG and other Vivo shoes with that sort of tread pattern, the Magna Forest ESC have quite a bit more rubber and traction when it comes to loose mud, snow, or scree. I wouldn’t at all pick the Magna Trails as the best barefoot trail running shoe – they’re a little clunky and hefty feeling for that.

Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page. The second generation has changed quite a bit which I’ll dive into but the core concept of the barefoot DNA and Magna Trail model is alive and well as the first generation.

While they’ll be a bit hot for wearing indoors at the club if you move and dance a lot, they’re perfect for a night out in the winter. In short, whether you’re adventuring in hot or cold weather, traversing in the city or mountains, the Magna Trail is a reliable companion you can depend on. It is a perfect choice for use in cold climates and being removable, can be taken off in the hot summer months where thermal protection is unnecessary.

When you walk in the countryside, in the mountains or in a green landscape you feel something that you can't feel sitting in front of your computer.

Plus, there is a rubber toe protector on the outside of the shoes — a nice addition to make your feet feel a little more protected in the minimalist shoes. Durable and water-resistant, it's designed with a knitted collar for a sock-like fit for natural foot mobility. These are created from the malleable body that flexes as you step on surfaces at an incline or decline.

The Magna Trail is one of very few in Vivobarefoot’s range to be water-resistant, which was very appealing to me. This smart thermal layer responds to the naturally changing temperatures of your feet, keeping them warm or cooling them down. Vivobarefoot has always made high-quality shoes in my experience and the Magna Forest ESC are no different. Please Note – Depending on availability, components such as soles, eyelets and laces may be different than those in product images.

These earn extra points for their rugged Corduroy build and waterproof features, making flash rains and wet weather easy to walk without concern. They feature thin and flexible soles that allow the feet to feel the ground and provide a more natural foot motion. I come from a sport leisure perspective when I say this – other Vivobarefoot shoes are classy and elegant looking. Vivobarefoot offers a wide range of shoe styles for different activities, including running, hiking, everyday wear, and even formal occasions. Definitely go a size bigger if you want to have some room for your toes to splay, and possibly 2 sizes if you want to wear toe separators, and/or a metatarsal pad.

Leading up to my first wear of these I’d been running in zero-drop trail runners (totally flat across the whole sole). The mid-height is great for ankle support on unstable terrain, while also preventing shrubs like sting nettles from nibbling at your feet. Durable and water-resistant, it's designed with a knitted collar for a sock-like fit for unlimited natural foot mobility, from trails to cocktails. I’ve actually been using a gray wool pair of Magnas for my walking commute, and I was considering getting a black nylon pair for more dirty/inclement conditions. She can’t get enough of being outdoors – whether that’s lounging around the campfire cooking up a feast, hitting the trail in her running shoes, or attempting to conquer the waves on her surfboard – she lives for it. The Magna Trail II FG shoe is equipped with a knitted knitted ankle sock for natural breathability and temperature regulation. The second generation offers more specialised options depending on which way you shift from urban to nature exploration, but the Magna Trail is a staple that hits the sweet spot nicely and is well worth the premium for bare feet health, design and construction. They aren’t too hot by any means, but for hiking and such in the summer (or above 15°C) I would much prefer a lighter, more breathable shoe.
