About this deal

A Lifestyle - Food - Travel Blog all about enjoying life with my family of boys in North East England and beyond. While games aimed primarily at kids need to be bright, colourful and with easily recognisable symbols, it does not mean they should not have personalty. We’ve been testing out another new board game, kindly sent to us courtesy of Playtime PR, and we really love it so wanted to share it with you! There is also a square where you can ask one of the other players to either find a specific symbol, or say what is hidden at a specific position – but choose carefully, because if they get it right, YOU lose a life! Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.

If you're a very competitive family, this could lead to a few arguments though but it was fun and again we’ve already played it a few times. If there’s one thing I that I hope everyone can take away from this review, it’s that board-gaming isn’t about owning the most popular or expensive games, it’s about trying new things and spending time with the people you love. In Baffled, players take it in turns rolling the dice and moving their elephant piece clockwise around the board. What Baffled brings to the game is the board with different action squares and the plastic covers that hide the tiles, yet the necessity of these elements is questionable.

In contrast, the components of Baffled, while they make the game initially stand out, quickly become frustrating, as several minutes into the game, you realise that beyond surface there is a much simpler and streamlined game. Even worse for the memory are the squares where they are just told to swap any two tiles of their choosing! Recently we have been reviewing a couple of Cheatwell games and with the countdown to the Summer holidays and our French getaway a few months away I am on the lookout for family games to take away.

The covering pieces are then replaced and each player places their elephant counter on a different starting point. Disclaimer: We received our copy of Baffled as a raffle prize at Blog On Toys as it had been entered into the Blog On Toy Awards. Recently Cheatwell Games asked us to review two of their games so last Friday night that’s exactly what we did. All the symbol tiles are placed in the centre of the board and the 12 covering pieces placed on top. There is, of course, no question, that in current fast-growing board game market, games have to do all they can to stand out. Each space on the board will either require that a player guess the location of the particular tile, or allow players to challenge one of their opponents to the memory game, or will switch certain tiles around – hence making it harder to remember where everything is and, as the name of the game would suggest, baffling the player. This version could build the confidence of a less able player until they are ready to play the full version. If you guess wrong, you lose a life and have to turn over a card, so that the red side is facing up. One of my favourites is the ‘swap any’ space – if, for example, you knew that Frog was on A and Apple was on F, you could swap the two to make remembering easier.

The more often players land on these squares, the more difficult it gets to remember where everything is. There are ways around this, however; one way I’ve found is to increase the number of lives given to someone who might struggle, and likewise decrease the number of lives given to pros! I remember tearing off the wrapping, only to be met with a somewhat crudely drawn elephant, and the phrase: ‘You’ll need the memory of an elephant! Founded in 1986, Cheatwell Games started out producing board games but has since gained an unrivalled reputation for the design and development of innovative toys, puzzles and gifts. My almost 6 year old seemed to enjoy it, my 3 year old didn't have a clue but considering it's aimed at age 8+ there is no surprise! We’re pretty sure she would, but there’s also an edge of fear as we know what a good memory and eye for detail she can have! Obstacles can be in a form of the complex movement of the pen on the board, a die that delays you from moving forward, and even closing your eyes to increase the difficulty. Playing a memory game is inheritably fun and therefore there is some enjoyment to be had when playing Baffled. To sum up: train, a feature of the game, that is also key to its gameplay, and while its design could be simplified to bare bones two-leveled boxes, its look and design sets the wild-west theme of the game and creates an atmosphere unique to it. This could be three fruit, three numbers, three animals, or the three things that are in your colour group.

Baffled from Cheatwell Games, is cleverly designed so that children and adults have an equal chance of winning. There are three sets: numbers, animals, and fruits, each with a symbol in red, blue, yellow and green. In addition to this there are squares when a player can challenge another player (of their choosing) to state where a particular symbol is around the board.Memory games are well known for being good fun, but combine the excitement and mystery of a memory game with the rules of a board game and it’s even better. My eldest was especially good at bluffing and challenging and also making up plausible answers to questions he really didn’t know the answers too. They like card games, board games as well as computer games, and I love how they all provide the opportunity to spend some quality family time together, creating important bonds and memories.
