I also question the amount of plant-based sausage included, since that’s not cheap, and I’ve seen recipes (not here) for making your own that would be at least a little more cost effective. I know that when you freeze tofu, it does change the texture to something more meat-like, but why do I need to do that twice? The fruit and veg that are the building blocks of vegan cuisine are just plain delicious, with the added bonus of being cheap to boot!

Two small downsides for me, the cover is awful and downgrades the appearance of the quality of recipes the book contains, there are some beautiful photographs of great food inside, I've no idea why they've pictured a burger and the colour scheme of yellow and cerise is garish. cover the onions (they will overlap in the middle) • Carefully tuck the pastry in around the onions, being careful not to burn your fingers on the side of the pan• Prick the pastry all over with a fork and brush the top with the reserved sage butter• Transfer the pan to the hot oven to bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown and puffed up.She is an alumna of the Turps Banana School of Painting (20-22), the Islington Mill Peer-led Art Academy (18-19) and recipient of the 2022 Castlefield Gallery Award. Packed with money-saving hacks and batch cooking tips and tricks, you'll be a total pro at thrifty cooking in no time. I also gave that book 4 stars and, if I’m remembering correctly, I think I liked that one better than this one.

There are a few standouts though, like there’s a do-able looking recipe for injera (an Ethiopian flatbread) but not a lot of recipes for accompaniments, an intriguing mushroom bulgogi bai filling (bao recipe included) and a chicken sandwich recipe that looks good, but I do wish they explained the process a bit more. In the past, my cookbook shelf has been guilty of the ultimate home cooking sin: being purely inspirational and decorative.

Our mission is to get more plants onto more plates through best-in-class recipes and delicious products. Surely a budget recipe book will be aimed appealing to people who don't have kitchen equipment like that?

I did read it cover to cover but I’d recommend reading Hilary’s review and the reviews of those readers who tried at least some of the recipes. Perhaps if it had been approached with a ‘when you get some free time’ or ‘this is a great way to spend a quiet weekend’ attitude then it would’ve felt more relevant. I suppose the one recipe I might have to actually start with is the Biscoff brownie; it’s got a potato base which is interesting, and in addition to the chocolate and cookie-butter (both very good things) there’s a candied hazelnut topper. One of the recipes I tested was the “Kimchi Udon Noodles”, which seemed like it would be complicated and full of hard-to-find ingredients.

I do like sweet things but I don’t like sugar in my savory dishes but I might like a couple of the recipes for dinner/dessert. That spread is commonly available in the UK but not so much in the US, and a few weeks after getting home, I had a major craving for that sandwich. Firth and Theasby didn’t just choose affordable ingredients for their recipes, they also delivered a fountain of useful money-saving tips. The Summer smoothie has berries, oat milk, banana, and rolled oats – items almost everyone has in their fridge and pantry.Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). This cookbook is a great manual for the new vegan, making it an easier transition and providing useful information in the “nutrition” section – including a ready-made response to the question ‘where do you get your protein from?
