A relatively quick middle grade book about fairies (or the others) who stole/tricked a little boy, a cursed/magical clockwork crow toy, and an orphan girl.

It reminds me of The Secret Garden or Tom’s Midnight Garden, both of which have a special place in my heart. When she finally arrives at her destination, to find that her godfather, his wife and young son Tomos are absent, and only a skeleton staff of servants to meet her, she assembles the contents of the parcel to stave off boredom and loneliness. It kept me on my toes with its haunting progress and the Crow was a great character that made me laugh with the grumpiness he exuded. Orphan Seren Rhys is on her way to a new life at the remote country mansion of Plas-y Fran when she is given a package by a stranger late at night in an empty train station.
