About this deal

This book really showed how people struggling with things in there lives cope, many cope with fake happiness or anger or fighting. When Kyra purchased her mother's childhood home in the Canaan Island of the Atlantic Ocean, she had a LOT to learn about remodeling and construction workers! But as summer heats up, so does Penny and Kai’s “relationship,” and Penny starts to question whether she’s truly faking it with Kai, if he’s really as terrible as she always thought he was, and if the life she’s fighting so hard to get back is the one she really wants. While eating breakfast and enjoying Faker, I was cut to the heart with McDonald's words; "he [the tax collector] sees that his true crisis was God's holiness vs. Yet, she is drawn to him, and the unexpected attraction to a man who challenges her to be her true self lands her in unchartered waters.

The book wasn't very realistic in the life altering effects of those problems, BUT the book never claimed to be, nor was it written as, a medical text book on Mental Health issues.Interesting how the characters move to a new place and immediately find their best friend and love of their life within a day or two. Cade was bullied as a youngster because he had a stutter that he has worked hard to overcome and Stevie’s parents are reality stars who exploit her at every chance. One example of a newer type of fakery, the “long con,” is the pyramid scheme, and Wood recounts the scams used by two of its most infamous practitioners, Carlo Ponzi and Bernie Madoff.

Why might a biographer claim to have interviewed Howard Hughes and collaborated on the reclusive billionaire’s autobiography despite never having met him? I didn't dislike this book completely, but it certainly isn't one I'd recommend or read again, it was just okay. It also promotes metacognition and peer-to-peer learning: two strategies identified by the Education Endowment Foundation as being particularly effective for disadvantaged children. One of the most helpful things the authors do is to describe some of the reasons these deceptions are confused with the demonic. Soon, though, Penny realizes that she likes Kai more than she previously thought and that maybe Jordan and Olivia weren’t quite the people she thought they were.Collett focuses on those who struggle with mental illness or addiction but mask their struggles with fake cheerfulness and smiles.
