About this deal

This is the authors first novel and it was carnegie shortlisted last year, a well deserved and impressive accolade for a debut. Alan and Vince start to slowly pull Josh into a white supremacist organisation that Carl, Alan’s older brother runs, under the watchful eye of a mysterious character named Martin. Currently she is head grower at Growing Communities, an award-winning social enterprise in Hackney, who run an organic box scheme, farmers’ market and urban food production sites.

Poking gentle fun at a British obsession with a detailed illustration on almost every page, this book will delight both aspiring and experienced gardeners alike. Michiel Panhuysen, a journalist published in several languages, specializes in organic and urban gardening. Grow is a compelling, heartfelt, confident novel, that like I Am Thunder And I Won’t Keep Quiet deals with issues of radicalism in our society. The judges for The Branford Boase Award commented: ‘An unflinching exploration of an important subject’; ‘I felt really immersed in it’; ‘a powerful read’; ‘there’s a sense of raw newness’. More than 250 gardeners have contributed their plant choices, each selecting one or more of their most treasured favourites.Discover plants chosen by horticulturalists such as Piet Oudolf and Noel Kingsbury, Sarah Raven and Erin Benzakein, Joy Larkcom and Ron Finley. Somehow they tap into this, talking about the mob and the murder and the unfair rights of those given opportunities to live here. Beneficial micro-organisms, bokashi or biodynamic compost, permaculture, vortex, power of the elements… The Organic Grow Book opens the doors to a full-scale (r)evolution where productivity goes hand in hand with quality. Having the story told using the first person immediately puts the reader into the main character Josh’s mind and it was compelling to see him face a plethora of moral quandaries from this point of view.

In this fascinating book…I personally discovered ideas that are exactly what we need in today’s business environment. The Observer said ‘ Lyrical journal entries and rich photography of Alexander's former sheep field emphasise her loose, forgiving approach to gardening and eye for colour, texture and shape. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.

Enquirers are encouraged to practice the ancient disciplines of biblical reflection and prayer, exploring key texts that have helped people since the earliest days of the Christian faith. Grow thus deftly blends timeless truths about human behavior and values into an action framework – how you discover, build, communicate, deliver and evaluate your ideal.

I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.Soon Josh’s vulnerability is taken advantage of and he is targeted by a white supremacist group who attempt to recruit him.

This was a really compelling but difficult read; there were so many points at which I was desperate for Josh to realise what’s going on/do something about it but it’s all too clear he won’t/can’t because of how angry or scared or stuck or ashamed he feels… never has the phrase emotional roller-coaster felt so apt. Recent clients include: Hampshire Cultural Trust, Kyle Books UK, The Watts Gallery and commercial developers. With subtle nuance this startling novel will challenge both educators and teenagers – Grow is a gift for KS4 teachers and pastoral coordinators looking for ways to embed PREVENT strategies that will resonate with pupils.I loved it -- RAYNOR WINN, author of THE SALT PATH Alice Vincent delves into what it is that makes women want to garden, uncovering what drives the urge to sow seeds and nurture plants, and by doing so goes on her own journey of discovery * * Sunday Times * * A conversational odyssey from a Canary Wharf balcony to Charleston, the Bloomsbury set's hangout, and a windswept smallholding in Denmark. At the heart of the novel is the theme of love and how this needs to be cherished and recognised for the good that this can do, both on the intimate family level and on the wider national scale. Mary served her curacy at St Lawrence, Hatfield, and has been the Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kirk Sandall and Edenthorpe since 2008. He starts to regain his ‘voice’, when one day he meets Alan and Vince at an after school catch up lesson. His ministerial life back in the UK has been spent in Sheffield and Rotherham where he trained for his curacy, becoming a Vicar and an Area Dean before being appointed Archdeacon.
