About this deal

So this is very much like Nancy Drew, except with a grandfather as a side kick and a little bit of Night at the Museum thrown in. You can certainly tell this book has been written by a comedian with the jokes, sarcasm, one-liners, and witty moments that fill the pages. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. It might not always be a chuckle a line but the comedy is definitely here, including some family-friendly observational stuff using Bonnie's sense of logic that could easily make this a book for the whole family to share.

Murder at the Museum is a thoroughly enjoyable start to what I hope will be a long series featuring the eccentric detective and adults who remain clueless that a little girl with a false moustache and raincoat has a better success rate at solving crime than the local constabulary. Sounds like the world’s best detective needs to make an appearance and discover what happened and who the murderer/thief is.

a completely absorbing read, with the most fabulous illustrations by Claire Powell bringing each character to life. I know for certain that mysteries are my favourite genre and I enjoy reading the ones written for children as they are the ones who figure things out best!

Though there is a little room for more originality and surprises in further outings for Montgomery Bonbon, young readers are sure to enjoy the twists and turns – and laughs – of this playful introduction to crime fiction. There are a host of interesting and suspicious characters on this strange island, but who is guilty and who is innocent? In this story, Bonnie’s visit to the local museum of curiosities is somewhat interrupted by he small matter of a murder, and the theft of the most famous exhibit: the Widdlington Eagle. But can she solve this case alone, or will she need double the detectives to solve double the murder? It seems that Bonnie and Grampa Banks have not had a lot of luck taking a real break during their holiday times. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. As a fan of murder mystery novels, I appreciate the influences worn on its sleeve and the fun play on words. There are many reasons I could recommend this title, the illustrations from Claire Powell which bring it to life […] The way that Alasdair Beckett-King appears to so effortlessly be able to make me laugh at the hilarious dialogue and story line.

Bonnie Montgomery lives with her mum and Grampa Banks, however, unbeknownst to everyone except Grampa, Bonnie's alter ego is the marvellous detective - Montgomery Bonbon! Children will love the accompanying black-and-white illustrations by Claire Powell and they fit perfectly with the short chapters, each one leaving you wanting more. Together they'll interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and - above all - hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are never in the same room at the same time.Bonnie and Montgomery (with the official Detective Sands and the help of Bonnie's Grampa Banks) must solve the mystery surrounding a missing eagle and a highly suspicious death at the Hornville Museum of Natural History and Suchlike. Why would the lighthouse keeper climb to the top of the lighthouse, to light the light, in a storm without putting on her coat first? Being dyslexic the books need to be accessible and fun, this is certainly a very fun read and has illustrations as well! Like all respectable detectives, Bonbon is despised by the local Police Inspector and relies heavily upon the sensible and practical nature of her sidekick, Grampa Banks. Then again, Bonnie has a further problem when she realises that Dana Hornville is also upon the island.
