About this deal

Cook, The Moors Murderers' gives readers a rare and fascinating look into the lives of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley - often known as the evillest couple in British history. Explora la mayor tienda de eBooks del mundo y empieza a leer hoy mismo en la Web, en tu tablet, en tu teléfono o en tu dispositivo electrónico de lectura. As a work of literature, critics have not held Beyond Belief in the same high esteem as other crime-related nonfiction novels like In Cold Blood or Norman Mailer's The Executioner's Song (1980). In this book, many artifacts become public for the first time, including photographs from Ian Brady’s ‘Tartan album’, police interviews and witness statements, which shed vital new light on Brady, Hindley and the dangerous cocktail their union became.

Frankly, I had a hard time getting through it and not because of the subject but because of the maddening style. Creepy and very dark, Cook’s portrayal of the killing couple leaves an indelible mark, and although some of the formatting could use some tweaking, “The Moors Murders” is a compelling true crime novel, depicting the most disgustingly despicable crime imaginable (child rape and murder) and the monsters who committed it. I was thrilled to be able to review a copy of “The Moors Murders – The Full Story Of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley”, by C. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). But the book was published in 1967, 18 years before Hindley and then Brady confessed to the Moors murders (even tho they had been in prison since 1966).I have read a bit about this case before but I still find it hard to read about it in detail, due to the nature of the crimes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pen and Sword for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review. As you read about their young lives, and then how they met and began their relationship, you start to get the sinking feeling - and a sick feeling as you know what is going to be done at the hands of the monsters that became the Moors Murderers. In the mid 1960s, the serenity of Saddleworth Moor was forever interrupted, even if people didn’t yet know it, as the area became a grave for the innocent child victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. This excellent book tells that story and manages to capture the atmosphere of those times in a dramatic manner. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use.

I have to say that after reading Ann West's FOR THE LOVE OF LESLEY, I saw this book with entirely new eyes. Firstly I thought this was above all a very respectful and thoughtful telling of the worst kind of crime imaginable, any crime against children by adults is unforgivable and should be met with the harshest rulings available but in my opinion I also think those punishments should fit the crime. On a different level but no less disturbing to me was the freedoms that their notoriety seemed to allow them in prison.

I also found myself questioning where some information were, tiny details that, while unimportant in the grand scheme of things, were presented in other mediums I consumed and weren't here. I have vivid memories of the bodies being brought down to the coroner's offices and the whole, grim story being slowly revealed.

This definitely revealed more information than I had known before and the photos included make this more real than ever. DAILY MAIL Since May 1966 when Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were sentenced to life imprisonment at Chester Assizes the British public has been absorbed and horrified by the Moors Murders.

Well written, with extensive use of northern dialect, it captures the desolate geography and times (postwar Northern England) and manages to evoke two very disturbing personalities. I cannot recommend this for anyone, prior knowledge of the case or not, being as it was a poorly written and frankly confusing at times. Glasgow-born Brady and Myra Hindley, his lover, achieved infamy after they lured away five children and abused then killed them.Besides that I did find it interesting because I did not know anything about the Moors Murderers and the author does provide some interesting information. Burton's professional stage debut had been in Williams' play "Druid's Rest," and Emyln Williams' son 'Brook Williams' became one of his life-long friends.
