About this deal

For one, the blades are so sharp, it’s easy to cut yourself, especially if you’re used to carrying a more forgiving pocket knife. Carbon steel is easy to sharpen, holds an edge well, and is durable, but the blade takes more care because the metal is prone to corrosion. The two knives are very similar, with nearly identical handle lengths (the blade of the Case is about ¼ inch longer). A curved blade of 50 centimetres or over, based on the straight-line distance from the top of the handle to the tip of the blade.

The Bahco sports knives have a durable alumiunium handle, with stainless steel blades and mechanism. I also like that you can get the durable 12C27 steel blade either straight or partially serrated for added versatility.

The Mini Swagger and Razorfish were marked by difficult and uncomfortable locks, while the Remix was tough to open. It’s a frame-lock knife, so it requires more finger strength to disengage the lock, but we never thought that created a problem. We liked this design because the smooth metal side reduced friction while we moved the knife in and out of a pocket, but at the same time, the nylon side offered more than enough grip for a secure hold. uk (formerly BA Blades) is a trusted specialist retailer of knives, knife sharpening equipment and other bladed articles including axes, machetes, and swords.

In fact, if there is a downside, it’s that the handle is too grippy: During our aggressive cardboard-cutting session, the texture along the edges of the knife became uncomfortable. ounces, and while it’s sibling, the Mini Bugout (also recommended earlier in this article), is a fraction of an ounce lighter, I’d rather carry the extra length of the regular Bugout. The standard model features a sharp VG-10 blade that excelled in our tests at slicing—due to its fully flat-ground design—and it ripped through materials, particularly our rope, without hesitation. And, unlike some other replaceable blade knives, Gerber's Randy Newberg model includes 3 different kinds of blades: a longer blade for removing backstraps, a shorter multipurpose blade, and a serrated blade. A knife where the handle fits within a clenched fist and the blade comes out from between two fingers. When you open the blade, that springing liner slides over behind the tang of the blade to keep it from closing. With the locking bar pulled back, the blade sits loosely enough for you to snap it open or closed with a slight flick of the wrist.

Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. The knife handle also seemed to twist slightly while we were gripping it, something that didn’t happen with the Drifter. In our tests, knives with even slightly larger blades—anything over 3 inches—had handles that started getting big for smaller hands.Tony Sculimbrene, writing at his site, says he doesn’t see the point of going larger than 3 inches for an EDC blade. A knife with a cutting edge, a serrated edge and images or words suggesting it is used for violence. The G10 fiberglass laminate handle offers a light grippiness, and all of the edges are nicely machined and rounded over, which wasn’t the case with many of the other knives we tried. It is for the person to prove on the balance of probabilities that they have a good reason for possession.
