About this deal

The U6G delivers much better picture quality, with a much higher contrast ratio, resulting in deeper, more uniform blacks in a dark room. There’s also a direct LED backlight, and while there’s no form of local dimming, the direct nature of the backlight produces decent screen uniformity. The image fades if you're at a moderate angle, but there's very little shift in color accuracy, and it looks better at an angle than the LG NANO75 2022. In its most accurate picture mode, it’s only able to cover 79% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and colour accuracy is poor with an average DeltaE of around 8, well above the visible threshold of 3.

While this isn’t surprising for a budget TV, it doesn’t necessarily mean the HDR performance will be bad – as long as the tone-mapping is good. We’d have to review this TV to give you a good idea of its actual performance, but on paper, you can definitely expect a fairly meaty improvement to image quality with a Quantum ULED set, particularly one with full-array local dimming, over a traditional LED set. As you would expect from a modern TV, the slim chassis precludes the use of larger speakers, and the amplification is clearly limited. Thankfully the Cinema Night mode immediately addresses these inaccuracies, with an excellent greyscale performance and an average DeltaE colour variance score of 1.It's bright enough to handle a moderate amount of natural light, but it's a bad choice for a bright room, as it can't get bright enough to overcome glare. The E7K Pro is at the lower end of the mid-market – while it has plenty of features, its picture quality is a little lacking, as we found in our review. The Hisense is also a bit better for gaming, as it supports a variable refresh rate, which only the 86" LG supports.

Though there are commonalities between the lines, like smart functionality, voice control, VESA mounting, and HDMI ARC, the more expensive lines support HDR, 4K, different audio technologies, and even different display technologies outside of LED. It has a great viewing angle and good uniformity, ensuring the screen remains uniform, even at the sides, when you're sitting close to the TV. On the downside, the VA panel does have very limited optimal viewing angles, so you really need to be sat directly in front of the TV.

The Hisense is also a bit better for gaming as it supports VRR for much less screen tearing than the Samsung. This kind of TV is about what you’d expect from a budget 4K TV launched in 2023 – you get 4K resolution, HDR support, DTS Virtual:X, and even HDMI eARC on top of familiar smart TV functionality. This flicker causes a noticeable image duplication, and it can cause headaches and eye strain if you're sensitive to flicker. It allows HDR content to be mapped more precisely to the display’s capabilities, and watching exactly the same test material in Dolby Vision reveals HDR images free of any clipping and with saturated but natural-looking colours. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

It has superbly low input lag, ensuring your actions are in sync with what you see on the screen, and it supports HDMI Forum variable refresh rate technology (VRR), which helps reduce screen tearing. While at retail, a Hisense set may not always be the absolute lowest of the low, they’re close to it, and on sale a Hisense TV can often be the best value around if there isn’t another similar sale on a similar set from another budget brand like TCL. As a result of this very sensible design choice, they measure 500mm from the edge of the screen, which means there’s no danger of cables poking out of the side when viewed from the front. There’s a good selection of streaming services, including Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Britbox and Rakuten TV. All the buttons are present and correct, including direct access to Netflix, YouTube, Rakuten TV, Prime Video and Freeview Play. The SDR performance is good, the input lag low, the smart platform highly effective, and there’s even Dolby Vision support.
