About this deal
Kate aka as Bright Side lives up to her nick name, she always looks on the bright side of life (cue Monty Python music).
This book is EPIC, do not be dissuaded by an innocuous cover, in fact this is a prime example of “never judge a book by it’s cover,” what is inside this cover is exquisite and deserves to be read, to be devoured and to be inhaled. from the beginning I already figured out the premise: perfect girl who always sees everything from the Bright Side and helps everyone around her out before she dies).Be kind to everyone no matter what their clothes look like, if they come to school in the middle of the year, or if they just don’t have as much as you.
I don’t have a personal experience in the subject matter so I don’t know how I would cope being at either side of the story, but I know for sure it requires a lot of strength for all involved. I like Kim Holden’s style; she’s always saying something or maybe I should say relaying something about Kate in her writing when you’re not looking for it… its genius really. I will say that the strongest part of the story was the last quarter of the book, which had me in tears. Thanks for making the playlist, I hope it helps with the book hangover, I’ve never experience one so intense.Kate was shy so she just remained in the back ground, but all she wanted in life was for Gus to succeed and she would push him all the way. It was a book that made such a deep imprint on me, and I’ve never forgotten it (along with Gus’ book). Digitally enhanced, watercolor-textured pencil and ink drawings keep the mood relatively light throughout this reportorial, child’s-eye view of changing circumstances and financial precarity.
