This colourful collection is available on giftware and apparel and will appeal to those who think cats are simply magical. This may have been originally a Japanese manga, but it is all done by a non-Japanese national, a rarity in itself.

They are pros at taking over your space and attention until you forget entirely what you were even doing before they interrupted you. Despite the hijinks, Creepy Cat protects Flora against the mansion’s more malicious beings—such as a vampire, whom the cat cuddles with until it disintegrates in the sunlight—while also helping to deter pale, lovesick local police officer Oliver’s advances toward Flora. Unbeknownst to Flora, other spooky creatures of the night sometimes appear in the mansion and interact with Creepy Cat.The story is very episodic with each page being a single short that begins to slowly build toward a narrative arc (it is quickly apparent it began as a webcomic), and while it does read as a bit chaotic and jumpy this is only the first volume so it is still finding a story. She remarks about not feeling alone because they have each other, while behind her are seven specters with blacked-out eyes. A local man named Oscar is also curious, but also completely infatuated with Flora (I don’t think she’s aware though). However, there are shortcomings: Where the original text may use parentheticals and asides to progress the story, the occasional appearance of parentheses in speech bubbles are a distracting reminder that comics utilize storytelling tools that haven’t been fully adopted here.

Though the author professes a preference of 90's horror manga, I could not shake off the Tim Burton vibes. I think my favorite gag is Flora not being scared by the house’s actual ghosts because she attributes the mischief to Creepy Cat. They are just thinking that you don’t know how to hunt for your own food, and they’re doing you a solid favor by treating you to theirs.This is a really goofy slapstick comedy series where each chapter is a single page joke with a ridiculous concept. One scene puzzled me and that was when Flora and Creepy Cat are enjoying a candlelight dinner together.
