John Van der Kiste read Librarianship at Ealing Technical College, where he edited the student librarian journal Stamp Out. During a tour for their first album, Mik Kaminski and Kelly Groucutt joined the band, with Pete Haycock and Neil Lockwood leaving three years later. There are some great songs written and recorded by Jeff Lynne before the "Face the Music" album ("Can't Get It Out Of My Head" for example) I believe that Jeff matured as the genius he is with the "Face the Music" sessions. Wood left Lynne in charge of the group to refine their sound, and their ambitious progressive rock epics gradually giving way to a more accessible style.
